14x8J ET10 on a 6n2

Featured Replies

I've bought a pair of Steffan RS wheels 14x8J ET10 for the front on my 6n2. I'm going to get some 14x9 for the rear at some point.

I tried one on today and it pokes alot more than I thought it would! (Obviously due to the low offest):

I understand that I need to keep the tread of the tyre under the arch to keep it legal and I know people run more poke than this so I should be ok.

Looking on tyrestretch.com "8_185_50_R14" look as if they should give enough stretch for what I need:

I don't want to rush into buying a couple of tyre that turn out to not give enough stretch, I also dont want to run a rediculous stretch that doesn't even look safe! If anyone could give me some advice that would be good. I know you everyone gets pissed off with these daily stretch tyre threads.

the wheel needs to be inside the arche not just the tyre otherwise you will get points i think

I'm not sure, from what I have read your actual wheel can poke 30mm, but the tread of the tyre must be covered by the arch.

As for your wheels I'm running a similar size on a 6n.

Mine are 15x8 also at ET10, I'm running 185/45 which gives an okay stretch, nothing ridiculous. Can you get 185/45 for 14's or just 185/50's?

They look like this to give you an idea.

On those wheels 195/45 is fine on the 8s and 9s, i know, i have them :)

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

185/45/14 and 195/45/14 are both readily available which is good! I might go for 195s on the 9Js and 185 on the 8Js or is there not much point?

Sean, any chance of some pics of your car? Any issues with scrubbing? Even though these wheels are wider than my current 15x7J RH cups (on 195/45/15), I'm thinking I should get more clearance due to the smaller rim size and stretched tyres.

Just ordered some 195/45s from CamSkill, thanks for everyones help.

They arrived today but It doesn't look like theres going to be enough stretch (theres basically no stretch) to keep the tread under the arch so its legal!

Getting them fitted sometime soon as I guess thats the only way to find out.

hmmmm not sure how that will look, personally i wouldnt fit them if your not gonna be happy....check my thread in the mk4 gallery to see what they are like

I'm actually changing mine soon for 165/55 or 175/50 so that ill be able to go lower

195/45 on 8-14 is a perfect stretch, but you should go down to ET 15, or ET 20 front and ET 15 rear

Used to run this in 1997 :-D

Is there a simple way to increase the offset other than machining down the back surface of the wheels?
