I looked from ebay and found quite cheap bearing/hub unit for my car ( I dont know hows the quality but that is another question..). In the pictures hub is already pressed in.

Now I'm wondering how that type of unit is put in place. You cant press or tap bearing in from its outer rim because hub is already installed. Usually it is not advisable to press outer fitting in by using inner rim of the bearing which seem to be only way here, or at least I cant figure it out any different.

never seen one sold as a unit , they're all like in the link shown

id be wary of cheap wheel bearings , I've tried them and had to do the job again with a genuine part after they failed quick

just had a look on the parts sites and it does appear like you say , must be pressed in from the outside as a whole unit, maybe someone else will have a manual and can tell you

Yes I'm also troubled about the quality of the parts which are sold that cheap. They are 30 pounds per each side. Here in Finland which is know to be quite expensive country they are 65 euros per each.

They are not genuine part I believe, but that shop sells usually OK quality parts. Maybe I visit there and see is their setup sold separately.

ask who makes the bearing , SKF or FAG are good makes , most made in germany is ok , if its made in china dont buy it

I tried to contact seller on ebay to find out make of the bearing and some kind of instructions for replacing such unit. Contacting was disabled due to high number of contacts. I haven't ever come across such policy on Ebay..

I've just been through this on a Fabia VRS. The single hub/bearing assembly takes a press to remove it. I ended up dropping the assembly off the car and popping round to the local independant Skoda specialist. It's not that the job is difficult, I'm a mechanical engineer, just that I've not done this type before and it was a mate's car. You need to support the upright correctly, which is made more difficult by the abs sender which seizes into the casting. When installing the new part, the locking ring needs to seat correctly or the bearing will work it's way back out. Had it been my own car, I would have had a go. The new part cost £55 for the Febi/Bilstein part as shown here. The car done around 120k miles, 190k km.

That part looks pretty much the same as it is on Ebay. I'm still confused how that bearing is installed without pressing from the hub? I cant figure out how that outer rim of the bearing is reached for pressing.

Did you see how that hub/bearing unit was pressed in?

You press inside the hub where the nut goes. If I was doing this on a work job I would worry about brinelling, but VW obviously thought it didn't matter.

All the replacements I can find on ebay are more expensive than buying the name brand from a known supplier. Which ones have you been looking at?

I have found place that changes those bearings for about 70e one side. I think that is so cheap that I let them do it for me.

The picture of the hub is a little misleading. The first picture you see is the face of the hub, the bearing is fitted behind that face.

take your car to a garage to get it done, i spent a weekend doing bearings not long ago and they are near impossible if you dont have the right tools. Forget bearing pullers, pressers, splitters i ended up taking mine to work and it ended up on the hydraulic press (not the one with a hand pump either!) on top of that the circlip was rusted in, had to get someone to spot weld it to get in about with a puch to remove it.

If you've been quoted EUR 70 go for it, best 70 you'll ever spend.

Pay as much as you can afford for the bearings, i made the mistake on buying cheap ones. Did the same job again about 3 months later after it failed an MOT for bad bearings.
