Wills purple 6n. Coming together slowly..

Featured Replies

Safe,

I'll post this in as little words as i can.. Started off when my old Saxo went to the bodyshop and epic rust was found, so i sold it and moved on.. Bought this little jem from a mate of mine..

Thought it'd be pretty cool, promised myself not to touch this one.. Came with 80mm springs and shocks which were fine..

Then i got bored one day and started buying stuff.. Started off with some suede for interior bits..

Then almost sold it, but kept it in the end. Got bored again so bought some scene mirrors..

Then i got mega bored and decided i'd started so i should finish.. A mate of mine was selling his install, so i snapped that up.. 2xMTX Thunder 4500's and a vibe slick amp (unsure on model off the top of my head either A0 or A8)IMG_47551.jpg

Then to carry on with audio i already had some Hertz HSK165 woofers. I managed to get hold of a Pioneer FH-P6050UB Doubledin headunit. Bought some Hertz ET-20 tweeters and some Hertz 2W.20 - 2 Way passive Crossovers. Completely gutted the inside of the car at the same time also, so i could do some sound proofing etc and started fitting everything and building tweeter pods/dash board... Pioneer.jpg

Then i looked into getting a new interior, i thought i might aswell seeing as i'd ripped the fucker apart.. Ended up buying a set of MK1 Audi TT recaro's in grey leather/alcantara. Getting that to fit was a bastard and the rears still aren't in now (bought about 3months ago) Fronts needed subframes chopping about and my original subframes welding on.. Am on the look out for some Golf mk3 fully height adjustable subframes though if anyone knows of any?

Then i bought some coilies. Decided it'd be a good idea to run them as low as they go on 13" fiat wheels.. Which ended up in my manifold, subframe, side exit and sills hitting the floor.. And that was just getting out the drive.. The pavement looks pretty cool now though. Tucked tyre on all four wheels..

Then i swapped my springs and shocks for some 15" wolfrace wheels two with brand new tyres, two with only 3mm of tread left. Raised my coilies obviously.

Bought a brandnew 16v non genuine bumper and got straight to work on it, plastic welded both side grills and number plate recess and boshed some filler on. Ordered some wheels too, and then realised that 8J et0 didnt fit on a friends 6n, so it was time to get to work on my arches.. (before and after pic) They were rusty anyway which i'd sorted before, so it kinda gave me an excuse..

Wheels turned up (YAY) they were as wide as i thought.. and i kinda painted the drivers side purple, for no reason other than to cover bare metal up on the arch.. Passenger side had no arch work when pic was taken.

Tyres went on, camber was added, coilies got height sorted.

It sat like that for about two weeks, then on Monday (23rd May) I decided it was time to start aiming to get it back on the road (been off since December 2010) With my 8v bumper completely gone as it was fcuked, the 16v had to go on no matter if it was finished, arches all needed to be fillered, the front needed to come down more (2cm's on the threads more in the end) then i needed to trim the bumper as it caught the tyre on the drivers side.. so i pulled the arch more instead :D So yeah it was fair to say i had/have my work cut out, but I'm aiming for it to be mot'd in two weeks time (by the 10th of may lets say) Then painted by the end of July hopefully. It's sitting like this atm...(pics from monday to now)

Then i got bored again and decided as i was doing all the work on my arches i might aswell get rid of my side repeaters whilst i was there, also bought a new bonnet (vents will be going)

It's now booked into Bodyart Paintworks for the 28th of july for a full colour change :)

Fcuk. That took me alot longer than i thought it would, didnt realise how much i'd actually done.. I'll get a picture of how well it sits on the flat if i can, its slightly more nose down than level :)

If your still reading <3 Ha.

Cheers dude. Gotta agree i did like the green! Not 100% sure what the new colour will be yet, got a few going through my head, just gotta make up my mind haha.

Sweet build so far mate, looks like so much work has gone into this.

Love the wheels too, mine are a similar size too yours so I know it's pretty difficult to get them to fit properly.

Looks like you've got the arches sorted though, a lot better than mine

If i'm honest, i think the green is nice... but the purple looks sick.

Not many Polo's around in purple.

Pretty lush build thread too, if only i had the funds/mentality you have so i could properly sort mine haha

how'd you get that double din to fit? didnt think there was enough room in the 6n for a double din get some pics of it finished

Thanks dude. Yeah 8J ET0 with 195/45's aren't too easy to get into the arches, i've got three washers on the back to bring some camber. Wanting to get some 185/45's for the fronts to get them sitting a little better though.

Lol, yeah gotta be completely off your nut to practically destroy a perfectly good car haha. It'll probably end up purple though, thats one of my options.

Technically without chopping everything inside the dash aswell as the centre console you can't get a double din to fit. Inside the dash theres little plastic prong things which're used as a shelf essentially, they needed to be cut off and the piece of plastic they were originally on needed modifying too to get all cables ect to fit. I'll try and take some pictures for you to show you how i mean.

Pretty awesome progress, will look mint when painted. Id go for white. Not particularly origional but will look awesome and will look good with the wheel colour. :)

I'm impressed so far, what size are the wheels ??? 15s??

will look awesome in a metallic purple

Cheers, yeah they're 15's :)

White isn't on my list, bit too bland for me tbh.

Anyone have any tips for taking the rear beam off? Should be a simple job i guess? Getting stuck on the rear brake thingy, can't get a socket behind it and it wont budge!

Edited by wiggy123

that will look sick!!!

you dont actually need to remove the rear beam to fit the rear brakes...i used the gti brakes off of a 6n2 and just swapped the stub axles over...theres a guide in the FAQ done by sanj (dubbprince)

Hope so!!!

Nah, what i meant was, i'm replacing the rear beam with a tdi one, because i could do with the brakes off it ect ect, just thought it might've been easier to literally swap the whole beams over. As far as i can see mine is actually in pretty good condition, could do with a scotch up and a little paint but thats about it :)

the rear beam wont fit on the 6n if its from the 6n2, however the stub axles will swap over as per the way i did it....its a common misconception that they do fit apparently, I've got gti rear discs on my valver and it makes a difference imo

Its from a 6n tdi dude, it came from a mate who claims to have a 6n2 rear beam on his? He had new shoes ect on the tdi beam just before he swapped them over. But if this is the case, i'll literally take the shoes out of one and put them in the other :)

Ta for the advice though

This is a great build, plus the purple will look lush. You've also just reminded me that I have some bullet mirrors boxed up somewhere aswell!

Thanks man!

The bullets are for sale if anyone wants them, along with the coilies, 0miles, only every fitted. Would make a classifieds ad, but I'm not too fussed if they go or not, i have something up my sleave, as of this afternoon anyway, you see...

Loving the purple!

For some reason I think in some of the photos it looks cool without respraying it hhaa

Looks like you've put alot of effort into this mate, looking good.

Only thing i dont like is the smooth vents on front bumper but the rest is coming along nicely!

Cheers man. Can understand about the bumper, i've just always thought it looks weird when people leave one of the two side vents!

going to be a good project

The colour is awesome :D

looking forward to seeing this when done mate!
