1.8T into a mk1 polo?

Featured Replies

From what I have heard, the bronze mk1 was having a 1.8t fitted, but that was a while ago.

Not sure which end it was going in though....

So may not be the first in the uk, but still one hell of a project :-) would like to see this progress

hello again everyone. the 1.8T has been on my mind again :)

After competing in its £999 event and coming 2nd on the handling course out of 42 it proves to many of my silly mk1 golf friends that you can make a mk1 polo handle well. I beat several imprezza's and kit cars but only got out run by a mk2 toyota mr2 with a 3 litre v6 in it and power steering.

I'm going to be running it at the GTI festival just for good measure to see how it compares to the rest of the dubs out there.

now back to the 1.8T part. I'm in 2 minds at the momment if to keep it road legal or not when i do this, several people have suggested i start drag racing the old girl in which case i would be turning myself into a bit of a trailer queen I'm afraid.

I have however been collecting lots of parts for the conversion, now have a....

brand spanker T3/4 turbo

water injector driver and most of the kit

full nitrous kit

boost guage

wide band lambda guage

lots of alloy intercooler piping

lots of nice samco in red

catch tank

I know most of it shiny stuff but its all things that cost lots of money in final stages that normally hold a project from getting finished.

I'm thinking serisouly about ditching the entire front end and getting a whole fibreglass kit from pesche motorsport, its a lot of money but it does mean i can ditch my wobbly front outer wings and front panel and bonnet which will make it a lot lot easyer to get the engine in.

really going to have to just get everything of the front of the car and take a grinder to it and strengthen the crap out of everything.

have also been looking at using the golf subframe and steering rack, i can move the drivers seat back and use a modified colf steering coloum and universal pedal box.

Why have i contradicted myself? I've been running at least double stock power since '05 and still have 239mm front discs, same pads and no servo.

And look,I'm mourned regularly..

your mk2 isn't as old, it didn't come with an 895cc engine as standard, it doesn't have 1800cc, it doesn't have a turbo, the engine didn't come out of a modern vw golf or audi, your engine isn't as hard to fit due to engine size, mounts or electronics and your mk2 is bigger than a mk1 thus making it more stable and able to handle more weight/power

i just hope this guy has enough money/talent/time to do this and he uses 4wd and most likely mounts it in the middle/rear like the m2f that has a 1.8t in it

Just wondered which parts of mk1 and 2 suspension and braking you think are different between the marks?

just ignore him Yeti, he's just another kid who thinks he knows what he's talking about!

I'm in process of putting one in my 6n and I have a CTN Diesel box from a 1.9tdi passat.

Have a read through this, should give you some good ideas :)

why settle for just 1 20vT, when you could have TWO VR6's? http://www.0-60mag.com/0-60Legacy/2009/03/twin-vr6-polo/

good luck to you mate, will be keeping my eyes peeled for progress!

i know of a mk2 loon sat in a garage nearby, not moved for 2 years and has no engine. I also know of a VR6 engine + box going cheap.......... tempting

that a lupo :doubt:

exactly what i though

Keeping my eyes on this.. Evil project!!!!

gearbox wise you could use a Mk2 GTD box they still have 90mm shafts, I would be more tempted to go for a G60 gearbox flywheel and clutch as its much stronger.. hydro clutch and cable shift etc that would make it easier for to fit with your skills.

cant remember if i pm'd this guy all the photos or not:-S

hes better off with his new idea of fibreglassing the whole front and space framing it.
