Featured Replies

So i got two quotes today, one on a 1.0l mk3 polo gensis and the other on a mk3 polo GT, and which was cheaper? the gt... i actually dont get it :/ the gt was £2759 and the genesis was £4027, there still both high quotes but wtf why is a 1.0 more then a 1.3? :)

Did you do it on a specific registration? Maybe the 1.0 had a insurance repair Cat D/C or so??? :)

I know when I done it I did it buy choosing all the values for the car..

1.0 was 1800

1.3 was 2100

Insurance quotes are really random i've found. Got some quotes the other day on a Focus RS mk1 and a Focus ST170 the other day. All details the same just different cars and the RS came out cheaper!!!! It makes no sense :?

There are so many different facts (or even stereotypes) they consider you can never know what you will get quoted nowadays.

I pay £1800 3rd party fire and theft on my GT an I was quoted 2200 fully comp on a VR, so tempting.

there are less gt's about so less get stolen/crashed/damaged, which is a big part of how they work out insurance premiums

Most sites quote me cheaper for a 6n2 Gti than my 6n2 16v Sport. Odd.

its just so random. Also i could insure an Rx7 twin turbo for £7000 but they wouldnt touch me with a g40 :/ slim Gt i say you should drop a Vr6 engine in a polo and turbo it, check the videos on youtube... they sound crazy! ;) Well when doing the insurance i did the number plate on Mclovins gt or on the avatar he has.. as for the 1.0l i found that on google images sooo... Btw can anyone find any GOOD CHEAP insurance groups?

Its just a a joke i looked at what it would be for my 1L micra and get quotes like 6 grand. My mates dad bought him a 1.8 golf mk4 gti for his 17th bday, i checked what the insurance for that would be and was only 1500 more than my motor, like whaaaaaaaaa?

also my dad just bought a 1950 pontiac chieftain 4.(something)L flat head and all this he pays £160 a year on it?!

It's stupid I simply can't afford it

That's not a GT mate its a 16v (well it was) but will show up on the insurance database as a 1 litre as I couldn't be arsed with the red tape and pissing about involved with changing it with the dvla. Just told the insurance folk what I had done and left it at that

Lol well i did the reg off a different GT on bullseye insurance.. £302 per month but yearly its £3,542.72 which works out at £338pm :/ Seriously I'm depressed and pissed... insurance is stupid... the 1 car I've wanted since i was young... and insurance groups have slapped an extra £700 to its insurance in the past year for my age :'( Think il either go for a nova redtop ( insured as 1.2) or drop a G40 engine in a 1.0 shell... But even then id sh*t it if i get caught

:/

it's like my old mk2was paying 967 in my first full year of having a full license, came to the second year, TWO YEARS NO CLAIMS nothing else changed, £1200.

When I search for my car on askmid it comes up as a "Volkswagen Polo GT genesis". Cool 8)

(still registered with the DVLA as a plain old genesis though)

If your complaining about the price of insurance on a 1.0 - you cant afford to drop a g40 into one, it would also be completely stupid. Why bother being technically uninsured? I assume its the first year of driving for you? Just drive a 1.0 or look at something else tbh, try insurance on a 1.3 spi and see what thats like?

The fact is i hate slow under powered cars, i would really want something with power, if i dropped a g40 engine in one i wouldnt tell them anyway although I'm not going to do that now. I've found another way of insuring a car anyway, company insurance :/ not sure if its 100% legal or not though. Also i cant stand french cars, i especially hate saxo's and 106's. The fact is insurance has now gone up again. few months ago a polo GT was £2500 not cheap but i could afford it, checked again yesterday £4152... most other 1.0 are £3000 or more now except an old punto and believe me i will never ever own a punto, they are seriously one of the worst cars I've ever seen.

I'm guessing spi is single point injection?

yeah single point

going for a classic mini, by far the cheapest to insure. il wait till i get a few ncb then il be back onto polos again :)

I put £5 down that a 1.6 B3 passat saloon (1989-94) will be atleast 500 to £1000 cheaper to insure!

It's because it an "old mans car"

Trust me, try it, i've done this with all my mates getting first insurance, average price was £1300 lol

Works with other cars too,

1.2 clio 3000.. 2.0 laguna estate 1650

1.25 fiesta 3200 Rover 620 turbo (petrol) 2000

It dont make sense...

The passat was still expensive around £3500 and the car is rare to find :')

As for the renault i dont really like french cars :/

And wow that the rover :0 £9400 for me to get insured on that

The mini still wins at £1200 even for the cooper sport ;) problem is finding one that hasnt rusted too much.

Minis are pennies to insure! My mates mini has wide archs all resprayed, pale blue. Some ultralite performance wheels (apparently 700 quid) and they are really nice! It's a 1 litre with a 1.3 ported head and has flattop pistons and loads of other stuff and about 700 quid of I.C.E, he has speakers under his read bench. Lots more modifications. He's on a

Mini insurance where he has unlimited modifications and still can declare them, but he can't change the engine above A 1.3 and it's 1800...fully comp and he's 17. Ridiculous!

look for a mk1 caddy.

Am i right in thinking original minis fall under the classic car insurance policy's out there and that is why they are so cheap?

Why don't you get something with a little more power then a Mini?

http://www.metro.co.uk/news/864501-teen-qu...driving-tractor

Haha well I'm paying 2100 on my 1ltr 6n polo. I'm 20 and have 0 ncb due to some stupid women drivers :@ but i dont want to get into that argument now haha.

Neways as i said I'm paying 2100 on my 1ltr 6n.

Got a quote for a 1.8 turbo nissan 200sx

CAme out at

2100 on the dot

WTF!

They do yes witch is why there so cheep :) but..... Rust problems could lead to spending hundreds, maybe thousands. A perfect mini could cost £6000+ insurance £2100= £8100. Now a decent polo gt could cost around £2000+ insurance £4242= £6242... Hmmm might just bite the bullet, No matter what car i get, it will be expensive so why not do it in style ;)
