1.6GLX mkIII breaking

Featured Replies

Hi,

Think I've put this in the right section now!

I have up for sale my mkIII polo 1.6 GLX. Basically the cambelt snapped on the way to work and the engine has lost compression so its up for grabs as a breaker. I'd like to sell the car in one piece, as I don't really have the time to break it but I can take off the easier bits if people are interested.

The condition of the bodywork is ok, rust in the usual places (the sill). Bodywork has the typical scuff marks and parking dings. The interior is good, no rips or tears just needs a clean. It has the VW polo alloys, clear indicators and all the bits bar the engine work perfectly, (brakes, power steering, radiator, suspension, sunroof etc...)

I'm looking for £150 for the car as whole or nearest offer. I'll be keeping it for a week and then if it doesn't go I'll be sending it off to the scrappy.

Location is Bournemouth

A quick pic of the car (I'll get more today):

Thanks for looking

Bump

Offers considered. Everything on the car is available - front seats (vgc), all interior electrics, alloys with 4 very good tyres, all engine ancillaries, suspension, breaks - would make an ideal donor car!

Iirc these are 16v spec in all but the engine, so bumper ect are the same as those round on the Valvers. Just thought that might help the sale a bit seems as the bumpers alone normally go for around £100

Thanks mate :-D

Forgot to say its got new suspension arms at the front, its also just had a service (obviously didn't do the cambelt), all the alloys have very good tyres with loads of tread left, the 2 on the back are almost brand new! Exhaust, breaks, interior electrics are all good as is p/s, radiator, dizzy, ht leads, battery, starter motor etc...............

Obviously bumpers sidelights etc... are all up for grabs too. I'll get some pics up to aid the sale!

Before I forget - the clutch and gearbox are all good as well and are obviously available

I've also forgotten to mention the car has only done 72,000 miles (71 something but I'll round it up) and has FSH, its been in my family since new.

Some more pictures:

Interior is in good condition, just needs a clean which I may do if indeed it does go to someone and not the scrappy

Engine bay (photo taken after I'd undone everything to have a look at the engine). Car will also come with a NEW CAMBELT as I bought one to see if it would turn. I'll of course put it back together should it go to someone on here).

Just to re-iterate it has no dents or scratches and would come up ace given a clean and overall is a good straight car. Just needs a new cylinder head.

Thanks for looking

Oh and lastly (bad memory) it has an MOT untill December

are these a contact engine? (ie has it damaged valves?) where are you located?

I heard that these are non-interference engines, so it may be slavagable with a new belt and having the timing done

if the engine has lost compression then its safe to say a few valves are bent. lol unless he pressure tested it with no cambelt

If it wasn't.so far away I'd of bought it just for the crank then doubled my money selling off the rest of the bits and weighing in the left overs

Really is a bargain for some one

well if the new belts not been refitted surely that means it wouldn't have compression lol? :s is it an aee engine? If valves arn't bent (did you strip the head off too?) and depending on your location I might be able to get a trailer and have this

ah just noticed you say it needs a new head lol & your in Bournemouth

Yep sorry guys, just to re-iterate I bought a new cambelt to see if it would turn and no luck I'm afraid. I did a compression test and it looks like the head has bent valves despite reading up that this is a non interference engine. Guess I wasn't lucky.

My local scrappy has quoted me £50 for a second hand cylinder head, and the gaskets and head bolts can be had for cheap on ebay for less than £50 so would be cheap fix for someone. I'm tempted to do it myself if it doesn't go.

Car is located in Bournemouth. Am happy to keep it for a few weeks if anyone is interested and wants to organise a way to tow it back.

Other than the head the car works perfectly and it would be a shame to scrap it really.

I am trying to find a way to get it back to Derbyshire as I want the alloys and interior.

If you do and you want to earn some money back i'll buy the bare engine off you

What sort of money you thinking as this will help me work out the costs of getting it home.

why are the bits you want always bargains but ALWAYS hundreds of miles away :(
