Is it illegal to sleep in you car on a car park or street

Example you go to Blackpool park up on the car park at the train station with a all day/night permit

U carnt get a hotel cheeper that £25 for the night on a Saturday would u say this is illegal or not

Car has tinted windows so no one can see you asleep anyway

dont think so

not that i know of it isnt

dont see why it should be tbh

I used to do this a lot. Coz I worked all over the country and was always given a per diem for a hotel which I chose to keep and sleep in my car. Very seldom did I get awoken by the police. But when I did they normally just asked what I was doing. If u say u were going to drive but were to tired your fine!

Try and find a quiet spot tho.. And a word of warning. Don't try and sleep off a night of drinking in the back of your car. As you can, as I found out for myself, be held responsible for the vehicle and get charged!

That said... Happy camping! Lol. My old mk3 had a false floor in the back and tints so I was fine, and also I DVD player in the dash! Was more fun then a hotel IMO! :)

it is if you are pissed. which i hope coming to blackpool, you will be

I vaguely remember reading something that if you hise your keys out side the car, IE on top of a wheel, they cant charge you.

Dont know how true it is, but might be worth looking in to.

Just thought I'd add info that's missing- yes, you can get charged but it won't be the fullsrinking and driving offense, they have no evidence of driving, just drinking so all they can do you for is drunk while in charge which is a lesser sentence (but I'm not sure of the penalty for it)

As for hiding the keys on a wheel, that's all well and good (not sure if that gets you off the drunk in charge offence) until some chav steals your car with you sleeping in the back - and it won't be covered by insurance as the keys were with the car just before the car was stolen.

Could you not put bricks infront / behind each wheel with the handbrake off- technically, the bricks are in charge of where the car goes... Not you? (stupid theory I know but it might work

I've slept in my car drunk loadcs of times,

i was always told keys in the glovebox and dont sit in the driver seat and your ok,

is it even worth the risk? get a holel for gods sake

If youre pissed, they can do you for being in charge of a motor vehicle. But you get around that by putting the keys under the bonnet, etc. I dont think its actually illegal at all, but I'm not police.

IF your sitting behind the wheel on drivers side they will do you for "in charge of a motor vehicle" (if you have been drinking only) doesn't matter if keys are elsewhere now... If you had nout to drink there is no problem, but then they will do checks to make sure its your car, and its taxed, mot and insured.

this seems crazy to me, is there something I'm missing?

Sure you aint been kicked out of your house ?.....

i've done it, in blackpool too. just make sure you're merked or you'll be really un comfortable.

If police knock on the window just don't wake up..

I've heard of people getting done for drink driving when sleeping in their cars whether they had drove or not.

If your sober you should be fine

If you're over the drink drive limit, you can be banned if you're in charge of a car. This means being in any seat, and regardless of where the keys are.

You're 'drunk in charge of a motor vehicle' not 'drunk in the drivers seat possibly contemplating driving..'

This includes being a passenger in someone elses car,if they've got out. So say a mate has run in the shop, leaving you alone in their car - you can be banned for that.

Even just working under a car that's in bits,so doing a head gasket on a sunday afternoon with the car on axle stands for example.. If you're having a couple of beers, you can get banned for being drunk in charge.

Stupid but true.

But if parked perfectly legally and fit to drive, its no different than a camper van. Yes you can sleep in it,provided there are no special restrictions (there might be security provisions on the area,or conditions on private land or controlled public areas etc).

it doesn't matter where you hide the keys... take off that handbrake and you could kill someone!

.

On another side note,

You can get done for sex in a car on a public highway, right? BUT what if you were in a camper van on said public highway? Same rules apply?

I take it they would do you for indecent exposure?

My mate got banned for sitting in his car with heaters on when he was smoking cos it was colllld....so obs keys were just in ignition....

Why couldn't they just sit and see if you drive, then as soon as you move, arrest you, but if you get outta the car and walk off.... they should leave you alone!

....coming from me who got in trouble with the police for a loud dump valve a few years ago!! Do they really get that bored??

i watched a police program where a pissed up guy went to the back of his lorry cab ratted, they caught him just getting into the cab and gave him 10 points for being drunk in charge of a vehicle, what wankers  also a few years back i had the cso's try and get me done when i was 15 in my old mk2 sitting on the drive with the engine running. i was reported for the offense of being in charge of a vehicle whilst not having a drivers license (the cso had a grudge as i kept riding mini motos round) lucky the officer who reported me had a heart attack and died so all his paperwork got thrown in the bin

Haha ^^^

I slept on the back seat of my coupe, fuck me that hurt

I've just been thinking about this, so all them times people have got lashed at the likes of poloshow and slept in the car its illegal? Or as its on private ground is it legal?

Private land they won't do anything but soon as its on the public road its illegal.
