After going through a skint couple of months I sold my bike carb setup to gain some funds. And after helping out with a few mates and their various G40 engine'd motors, I was soon hankering after one myself :wub: So the plan now is to use a G40 bottom end, the solid lifter head with the custom pulley, and a turbo :D That way I don't have to mess about with the drivers side engine mount to fit the supercharger.

But I thought whilst I'm gathering the parts for the G40, I'd fit the polo GT injection stuff I had lying in the garage as a good start for getting my head around the wiring, because the work needed to convert my solid lifter engine would be pretty much the same for both. :D

So I welded a lambda onto my downpipe, made a little box to house the fuel pump and accumulator inside the car, did a bunch of wire soldering after looking at wiring diagrams a million times, and this;

Obviously the polo GT (and G40) ECUs need a blue temperature sensor to control the fuelling, but I didn't want to fit the GT thermostat housing just for the blue temp sender boss, as it'd mean having to buy all new radiator hoses and figuring out where the flip they all go. So I decided to make a boss out of aluminium and weld it to a spare mk1 thermo housing, in place of one of the redundant heater pipes :D That way I could keep my mk1 rad hoses and thermo housing, whilst still getting a blue temp sender reading. Also, it'll be one less thing to have to do when I eventually get round to fitting the G40 engine.

I don't have any precise machinery or side cutting tools so I'll probably have to just mark it out using the vernier plate as a guide :? Not too sure how well it will work out, thats why I've been putting it off :lol:

When you did yours I'm guessing you had one of those rotating chucks on the bed of a milling machine?

Mine was fully CNC programmed mate.

I've seen this car around on various sites for a bit now and I've told you this before on edition but it's so awesome :D8-)

Also, where the hell did you get the lathe from? Must've cost a fair bit no? I'd love to have tools do this kinda stuff :( I'm gonna have to get a welder, you've motivated me to haha

VAT free days at Machine Mart :unibrow::lol: Yeah they aren't cheap! I just saved up after doing a few jobs for people and spent the money on more tools rather than spunking it on the car, which I might add was fucking difficult not to do :lol:

Its amazing the possibilities that are opened up when you have access to tools such as this. Even with just a welder you begin to realise stuff you never even thought about is possible, not necessarily anything to do with cars either. I'd recommend it! :thumbsup:

Whilst its been there I decided to act on something thats been bugging me for a while, but I'd imagine its quite boring to most of you so apologies in advance! :lol:

Ever since my mk1 had the rear arches repaired (and accidently flared) about 5 years ago, the rear arch trims haven't fitted the way they originally do. They are supposed to fit snugly against the body of the car and cover almost all of the rear arches, but with my arches being wider they sat further away and made the rear arches look too droopy. Beforehand I was actually pleased because it meant I could fit wider wheels, but now I reckon its one of the reasons why I think it sits oddly. I had fitted the front trims a little further outward in the same way to try and even it out but the other night I just thought I'd play about with it.

I trimmed away the return lip on the rear arches so that I could fit the trims back in their proper locations and I reckon although it has sacrificed some of its "stance", it has improved it...

So it now appears to be tucking less tyre and has created more poke on the back, but I am pleased with the results. I am guessing people will see the pics and not notice any difference though :lol: I will lower the back again and probably remove the 6mm stub axle spacers currently fitted.
