cheers next event is hopefully xmas stages pembrey.

the gearbox at the mo is a 6n 1.0 1996 code DCD with a gripper diff. works vey well.

but straight cut challenge box will be in for the next event.

the second design but maybe with black side skirts

Glad the gripper diff works, been thinking of getting one for my car! Would like something sequential as well. What ratios does the straight cut kit offer?

  • Author

Ratios of the straight cut box are:

1st 2.818

2nd 2.077

3rd 1.688

4th 1.412

5th 1.211

FD 4.0:1

there are other choices of FD a 3.8:1 or a 4.2:1

Well if your interested I now have a contact where I can get a complete new gearkit for the Polo 085 gearbox made by Hoer who made the challenge gear kits.

I can supply these at £3600 a kit. (does not include the LSD.)

Hmmm, a little out of my price range if I'm totally honest - I'm road rallying on a tight budget and that's a lot of moolah to splash out on (I want some cams first and that's going to cost the thick end of £2k by the time I've had a new ECU in there and a remap to make the most of it)

i managed in road rallying with a gripper diff and a polo 1.0 1996 gearbox code dcd. nice ratios with a 4.26:1 final drive. worked well fro me. thats the way i would go if i was you.

Christmas stages ran on wednesday just gone had a great day and it was a good chance to test the new gearbox. the car went really well. I'm over the moon with the difference the straight cut gear kit has made.

no awards this time as on stage two i hit a pothole hard and bent a rim which ended up in a deflated tyre so we had to stop on stage to change it which lost us 4 minutes.

here is a video from car 27 who caught and passed us on stage 5 a 2.0 group 4 escort. it has good coverage of me in the polo not bad for a 1400cc against a 2000cc. you can also see him checking his rear view mirror for a long time after the pass as I'm sticking with him.
