insuring bike carbs with aviva

Featured Replies

hey guys, just wondering, is anyone insured with aviva and declared bike carbs?

wondering how much they charged you?

alternatively couldnt you just say youve changed the carb for a different model and not be specific?

I'm with them and thought about this, I highly doubt they will insure you though, mainly because they won't have a clue what the fuck your talking about. Your best bet is to say iv fitted an uprated carburettor that increases power by so much....

or just, yeahh the powers about the same (shhhhh) haha, i remember when i got insruance quotes, saying it was lowered would make it double to about 3000! no way i could afford that!

cant afford to change really, only with aviva because its cheap! its my first years driving so no no claims ect!

Adrian flux quoted me £6k for my polo with mods,

Adrimal dont charge that much for mods :)

Just say its from an uprated car and just say it makes it a tiny bit faster?

Adrian flux dont charge at all for mods, unless they increase the power. Seems odd that they quoted 6K

Just ring and see, you gonna do it anyway..

i was with elephant who like are admiral...and they're shit for performance stuff.

they said i could only declare like 5 mods on policy...wanted £23 a month extra for an induction kit...brentacre i just have a horsepower limit, ring up as much as i want changing things for no charge...rang to ask about engine conversion and spent 20 mins chatting about what spec to build the engine..being told by them ''ahh run a lumpier cam than that, fuck the tickover'' etc haha, ''normal'' insurers are pretty shit for modded cars..but specialists are generally fussy til your 19 and have some no claims

oh & admiral/elephant wont let you lower more than 50mm lol....clearly havnt seen the standard polo height

But will your average assessor know the different in ride height? You will of course be taking a risk if not declared. I had the assessors out the other day to write mine off. I have never declared a modification and they signed it off. I did put the steels back on however, and it has been put up to standard ride height. But the interior is not standard, and the stereo was left on the seat. Also, colour coded bumpers were no declared either, which in theory they should have been.

Insurance is one big risk game. I tend to insure my cars third party if I can because I take the risk that I will not write my own car off. This is not a certainty, but I can reduce the odds by driving carefully. Also I repair my own car so if I do damage it, it may be a write off, but so long as it's not a total loss, I will repair it if I can. I have just insured my 9n fully comp though, but that's because it was a fee notes more to do so, and I get wins screen protection etc now. You can of course take the ultimate risk and not declare your mods, as I did. Engine swap, lowering, interior, alloys, stereo etc and I took the risk I wouldn't cause a serious accident and have my car thoroughly inspected. I won as I never had a claim against me and in return I got cheap insurance.

Having said this, I do not condone having incorrect insurance. Having weighed the risks etc, I will now declare my modifications.

A word on admiral though. They were the cheapest I found to insure my 9n and mk2. When my car was wirtten of a month ago, they were exceptional, sorting courtesy cars ( which I had for a month, free of charge. Had to ring them to take it away!). The Assessor was quick to come out, and I actually made £75 on the pay out! I know this is what insurance companies SHOULD do, but considering I paid peanuts for my premium, I was very happy with the service. In fact the money I paid them over 3 years of premiums was made back by the courtesy car rental alone!

At the end of the day if you crash and they want to look at it you can just pull them off and stick the stock carb on just not bother putting anything back on they'd probally not notice. Or just dont know anything about it. simple

Its not the right thing to do but the amount they'll want to charge you wont be right either

one of my friends is in prison because he had desristricted his moped which gave him a whole 2mph, a tiny washer...someone got hurt so was investigated. now hes in prison...great crack
