Hey guys need some help

Featured Replies

So i got my whinning noise back again on my 2nd box took a chance with it buying it 2nd hand but i was in need of a box and hardly any money thought it's been going for about 4 months and its just getting louder and gears are getting a little hard to select.

How would one refill a gearbox with oil is there a special pipe or adapter?, I brought some oil a few months ago but i haven't put it in as i was waiting for a new box to go in the car then top it up with brand new oil! Would this be wise instead of trying to fix the one i got as I'm sure its the release bearing or the crappy rivet of the 5th gear waiting to shoot through my gears and destroy my box.

You can buy gear oil in bottles with a short length of polythene tube on the nozzle.

Clean around the filler plug before you remove it, put the tube on the gearbox with the bottle inverted and squeeze the bottle, allow any excess oil to drain out (it should be level with the bottom of the threads) and put the filler plug back. Do NOT overtighten this, as it is a taper thread, - too much tightening could crack the box.

HOWEVER, if the noise is coming from the release bearing, putting oil in the gearbox won't help at all.

Regards.

The whinning or wherring noise happens on acceleration and acceleration you hear it at about 50/60mph its not a smooth ride at all so i think i'm going to have to replace both clutch and gearbox.
