Got a letter from the dvla saying that my polo was accident damaged and i required a vin check, the car was crashed by a previous owner but all that needed doing was a new bumper, wing and indicator. Its all been repaired. The woman also had i letter to say that it was in working order but i dont have this.

The problem is that the car was a 1.0liter and now its a 1.3 spi, its also been lowered. The dvla dont know this. I'm particularly concerned about the engine. Has anyone had one of these checks and what do they all check out on the car?

I have got the 1.0 engine miles away but i dont really want to have to put this back in tbh.

Fill in the paperwork now, and send it off.

Say you finished the conversion yesterday, and you sent the paperwork off today.

Not sure if they'll contact your insurance or not though

The Dvla only need to know your engine change for tax reasons iirc, but the 1.0 and the 1.3 have the same tax bracket, if not the difference might only be a few quid.

They probabily wont, but in an accident you aren't insured.

change the engine or do the paperwork.

A Vehicle identity check does what it says on the tin, all the numbers have to correspond.

If they don't, you are boned.

Pretty unfair though as someone could have replaced the engine before him and not told the DVLA (rightly), could be the same capacity aswell!

Also, what numbers do they actually check? Just the chassis and engine code?

They check that the numbers they can get to easily match. On a mk2 polo they'll probably go

Vin plate on slam panel - fine

Vin on bulkhead - wipey wipey - fine

Datasticker in boot - fkd off years ago - nevermind
