Advice on buying a VW polo

Featured Replies

Hi all

My first post, but I have been lurking ;) apologies if this is a re-post, but I did try a search.

Anyway with all cars each make has it's "own" things to look for when buying, other than the obvious oil, wheels, underneath etc. Is there anything specific that i need to look for when buying a 6n polo (between 96-98 model)?

thanks

i would say look for one which isn't rusty, but that is impossible.

the two things to look for on those is rust (pretty much every where) and listen for gearbox noises when test driving.

I beg to differ :-D

But yeah in all seriousness, the vast majoity have rust problems - check the arches, boot etc.

Gearbox whines etc, as hayesey says.

I wouldn't say high mileage would be an issue, as long as it's got a concise enough service history; cambelt, water pump...
