just wondering what these pieces are really ., i have labelled the areas on the pictures with a number :) . and gonna get some fuel line as going to be fitting these this weekend hopefully, so is there a specific size i will need or is it usually a standard size ? shapow ! cheers peeps

I'm not sure dude thats why i am asking lol , and yeah its a BB mani ., i had the carbs cleaned and jetted and fitted too it too

i think 1 & 3 are water inlets and outlets but not 100%. ah how much did they charge you for making that and jetting and balancing them?

they charged me there standerd price , with out looking i cant remember exactly but its about 180 for the mani before VAT .

These four carbs are piped siamesed as two pairs.

1 - fuel inlets (back-pressure from the pump-tank return loop,as it needs to be a plentiful/unrestricted supply but at very low pressure).

2 - water/coolant vent hose inVout-inVout (optional, I've never connected it).

3 - vital pair of vents (flammable fuel bath exhaust,vent to safe point of atmosphere).

4 - unmarked,they're the diaphram chamber vents,and are the big ones each end (or one in the middle on older carbs). These go to atmosphere.

Bogg's manifold is looking sweet these days,nice shape that,given the head its for.

Yeah I love the look of it ! Should look nice under the bonnet just need some filters , is the fuel line a standard size ? Or will I need a certain size ,? And what's number 4 ? Not sure which bit I'm looking at.

No. 4 Mikey, is that the same as 1 but on the opposite side?

Where best for it to go? Down towards the bottom of the bay or something?

Yes.

No.4 is the big one by the pulley,there should be one the other end too,you'll see the hole in the carb. These are vents but you dont have to do anything with them. Nothing at all. You can remove the one by the pulley if its in the way. They would go to the air box and high vac would assist in opening the needles/slides,but this isn't needed.

^^ As in, nowhere near the ignition system.

The manifold pipe is for a brake servo,which you dont have. Cap it.

Its the "vacuum advance" feed that your distributor uses to retard and advance the igntion timing relative to TDC (top dead centre).

that was like reading something from NASA . haha little confused hehe ,,

don't you have to have to tap all 4 cylinders feeds to get a propper vacuum feed for the vac advance because for a period of the cycle no vacuum is present due to the inlet valve being closed.

I was thinking the same thing....its almost like you need a tapin on each branch of the manifold..all daisy chained to one sort of connector block which can be distributed to brakes/dizzy etc?

I just got some CBR carbs...they have the butterflies and choke slides (so are CV carbs?) I cant remember which, but if you suck or blow a connection on them, the choke slides open up....if its suck do you connect to a tapin on manifold?

So when you open throttle, the butterflies open, but chokes slide open with relavence to airflow into cylinders? (more airflow=more vac=slides open more?)

But if its blow where the hell do I connect it lol

If you BLOW on #2..the chokes open up...so how am i supposed to connect that up on the engine lol? if it was suck id understand :S

Ah, would I connect the connection for choke slides to the crankcase breather? That blows and pressure increase with rpm? :)

So BB jet them when there off the Car? How does that work or do they just guess it? Sounds decidedly dodgy tbh.

2 & 3 are bowl vents, leave to atmosphere

As mark said you should have a vac feed from all 4 cylinders, when i built my setup i was told that taking from 1 would not create enough vacuum or give a clear signal for the dizzy and could even damage the servo and dizzy.
