Rocker cover removal

Featured Replies

Ok this is an easy one.

I want to take my rocker cover off either to polish it or spray it, haven't decided yet. Anyway, what I need to know is how to get it off and refit it. Is it just a case of undoing the 3 bolts on top and off it comes. Then to refit it just putting it back on and bolting it up. Or am I going to need any gaskets/oil ect. Never really pulled an engine apart before .

Oh yeah nearly forgot, the car in question is a Mk3 1.3

Also if I decide to go down the polished route, how do I keep it shiny and stop it from rusting again?

Thanks

Daniel.

Yep, three bolts and it lifts straight off. The rubber gasket beneat it is reusable, so all good. If your rocker is one of the pressed steel ones, then polishing it will be a pain and it'll rust again. Better off getting it powdercoated if that's the case. If you have one of the alloy ones then they polish up nicely.

Put a picture up and i can tell you. The alloy ones are lighter and of thicker material.

or try a magent on it ...steel ones are usualy rusty as hell too

if you need to ask all this ...not being nasty but it might be best to leave it alone

Someone has painted it red a some point but it looks rubbish. Will stick a magnet on it see what happens.

I see what your saying but got to learn somehow.
