Yo, a lot of us on here mess with cars and shit and will have a collection of tools to aid that job..just wondering what kinda boxes people have..money spent..time building collection etc? :)

Been building on it for about 2 years...kinda arranged so I can take just my topbox overseas and get by with that.

Could do with some more drawer space. Dont like my spanner drawer...

Might not be much exciting but its virtually everything I need day to day :)

@ harris.racing - please tell me your in the motor trade =O thats a hell of alot of money spent with the snap on man if your not....gotta be a couple of grands worth there!!! i only say as my best mate is a mechanic and only uses snap on and hes got thousands of pounds worth of stuff and youve got a good bit of what he has right there =D

I've got about a quarter of what you have Mr harris.racing all a mixture of Draper Expert and Halfrauds Advanced and that is more than enough for me to do pretty much any task that could be classed as 'day to day' on a car.

So as Seanvw says I hope your in the trade as that is a hell of alot of money to spend for a home mechanic

i have a box that not really worth posting up and it far from as neat as yours

but it does the job

you have more pens in there than are in my house! would love to have all that though got to admit!

haha yes I am in the motor trade, when I say get by I mean I don't have loads of special tools like locking tools for timing engines etc, I need the tools ha it's not just for banter :) it's not that impressive lol, only about £3k's worth, baring in mind my dads would be about 16k, but that's a lifetime of collecting :p

I've got the same amount of tools really.. (apart from the air ones). Tools are stuff I don't skimp on and they are something to be passed down like Watches and the like.. well thats how I see it anyway! :-D

Plus I got all mine from the US so its a hell of a lot cheaper! :)

£15 a week to mr snap-on got a few sockets and shit only buy the stuff that matters things like pry bars and hammers i don't see the point when it's exactly the same else were but half the price!

Seriously wish I had a decent collection of snap on shiz, in a few years hopefully will do!

Yeah i can't knock it the spanners and sockets can be a bit shit on rusty/tight bolts and can end up rounding them but i have snap-on for that now :)

Plus the only thing that has gone wrong with my halfords is the torx bits but lifetime gurantee :)

tbh i dunno why i get snapon, its not even that good, amount of things i snap is annoying, more like snapoff, and you cant even blag it with the lifetime guarantee anymore cause most stuff is these days. i have slight toolbox ocd i think

Why bother with them when halfords Pro stuff is the same but cheaper?

If anything, they are better.. You couldn't go to snap-on at 7:55pm and get a new one when you need it, You would have to wait god knows how long for one.

Yes I have the halfrauds pro stuff too! Works well even on the tough rusted-to-fuck stuff on the bug! Lol Halfords also don't really quibble when you go for exchange on broken stuff, mate of mine at a garage was using the company Snap-on breaker bar which coincidentally broke...the agent wouldn't exchange because they couldn't prove it was being used correctly at the time! (the garage owner then chased him off the premises with said bar and he's never returned! Lol)

Most of the Halfords stuff seems to be rebadged sealey from what I've seen. Which is no bad thing as Sealey are one of my first choices for a lot of things, but Halfords give it a lifetime warranty.

What I can't recommend highly enough to people is a good set of impact sockets. I have two sets, a shallow set of Hitachis that fell out of works impact driver box and a set of deep no names. You can tap them unto a damaged nut or bolt with a hammer and know you'll never round something off with them. It's very rare I ever use a chrome socket, particularly a 12 pointer and I rarely round anything off.

That's a lot of tools to work on your 1.4 8 valve .

I do most things with just a cheap Halfords socket set and some cheap spanners and screwdrivers.

Definitely good advice there, even when I'm not using the impact driver I tend to reach for the impact sockets, it's amazing the difference it makes, even when using a great big fuck off breaker bar

As for tools, I have a Clarke HD Plus chest with various Draper, Sealey, Halfords Pro and the latest addition is a nice 3/8" Teng socket set..

My old man's collection (which I tend to pikey) is ridiculous, 2 Clarke HD Plus chests sat ontop of 2 Clarke HD Plus cabinets, I think we have more tools than the local MOT garage down the road, I think he secretly wishes he could just quit the day job and open up a garage
