As in title, my bonnet and front bumper dont sit flush. As in there is to much of gap between them when the bonnet is closed. One of my wings is slightly bent out of shape so there is a noticable difference in the gap from the bonnet at the bottom compared to the top, if you get what i mean. Would the gap between the bumper and bonnet be because of this???

Not that has been recorded, could anything be done about the gap? Getting a flush front bumper so might see what bodyshop can do.

if stuff is out of line and your wings bent, it sounds like its had a wack at some point, new wing/bonnet ect might help but it depends if anything major is bent

Car dont need a new wing and bonnet as I first though, I hadn't lined them up properly when messing around with them, I'm no mechanic but tbh it dont seem as if anything out of shape due to a crash. Tbh its a £200 project so if the new bonnet and wing dont sort it it could always be scrapped for £150 and count my loses.

Got it off sister in law buddy, was going to get scrapped as she had enough of it and got a brand new polo got a bargain tbh. Ok so wings were slightly put on too close to bonnet so was catching, was my fault so all sorted. Bumper still has a gap that's 2 big as I see 9ns all the time and front bumper sits virtualy flush with bonnet, the bumper is kinda bodged on but lights etc still all line up properly that's why I'm bit stumped on this could it be an issue with the bonnet

Have taken rubber stoppers off bonnet and the gap is still there, if I got a new bumper and took it to a bodyshop would they be able to get it sitting any better?

Well if theres no damage behind the bumper, I cant see why a new one wouldnt line up correctly.

There aint any damage buddy,( there's a crappy screen print off my fb on my build thread if you wanted a look) was thinking it might just be the bumper but everything seems to line up ok, maybe I've just done a crap job of bodging it lol

Sometimes is can be annoying, I've tried to line up a couple of wings and bumpers in my time and dont have the patience lol. A good body shop should make it look likes its never been in an accident.

Have lined up the wing and bonnet best I can, well its not rubbing off any other panels now and the wing isn't catching off the door lol. I couldn't work out why the bumper was sitting as high as it would go to the lights but not to the bonnet if that makes any sense, maybe it might have to come further out so that might allow it to sit slightly in front of the light as apposed to tightly underneath

Adjusting bonnet

– After loosening the bolts -7-, the bonnet can be aligned between the wings by moving the hinges within the over-sized holes.

– The bonnet can be adjusted in height to the wings by means of the adjustment buffers -12-.

– Gap dimensions → Rep. Gr.00

– After completing adjustments, perform corrosion protection measures on hinge and bolts.

Cheers bud, have removed adjustment buffers but the gaps still there. Which leads me to believe it must be the bumper

I going to give it a bash at lining it up again properly if not will just buy a new bumper and pay the bodyshop to fit it before spraying it

the bumper fixes to headlights, wings and front panel so would have to be pretty fapped.

1)make sure the corner of the bonned lines up with the corner of the wings

2) loosen the 10mm bolts on each side of the slam panel, pull forward and tighten in that position.

3) remove grill, loosen bonnet catch bolts into slam panel, move catch down and retighten until bonnet sits flush when closed.

they're never perfect but you can get close.

Removal and installation of bumper cover > 03.05

– Remove radiator grille → Chapter.

– Pull headlight washer system trim -13- up from bumper cover and unclip, and remove headlight washer system pop-up cylinder → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.92.

– Loosen cover -1- in area of wheel housing liner → Chapter.

– Remove bolts -6-.

– Unclip outer air intake grilles -10-.

– Remove bolts -2- and -12-.

Further dismantling is possible only with the help of a second mechanic.

– With a second mechanic, pull cover -1- parallel out of guides (left and right) -12-.

– Disconnect fitted electrical connections.

Thats the way I see it and bolt #12 fixes the bumper cover to part #5
