washer jets not working

Featured Replies

just wondering if your windscreen washer jets are not working, is it an MOT failure or just an advisory?

anyone know any common problem with washer jets not working aswell? (it's not the fuse, that's fine)

cheers

Is the washer motor working when you try to use them? If so then you either have a blockage or a leak that the worker is escaping from.

If the motor isn't working then take the plug off the motor and run two wires from the battery and see if this makes it work, if it does then there's an issue with the wiring, if it don't then the motor is toast.

I would think it would be an advisory and if I was you I would change the pump first, it's easily accessible on Mk2s anyway.

Why change it if you don't even know if that is the problem?

its a fail if they dont work mate hope this helps

stop misadvising people foo'

its a fail, as you cant clear your windscreen appropriately

its a fail

Takes one to know one

take the jets themselves off, and see if water comes through the pipes at all. if water does come through the pipes, put the jets in some boiling or hot water for a few mins, to free out any residue, then just stick a needle through the jet lumens to get rid of any grit or shit int them.

and yes as has been cleared, it's a fail, the girlfriends 306 failed last winter, but the tester just did the above process^^^^ and free'd them up.

Just to clear up mattloafs comment ... Front are a fail rear would be an advisory. Unless you dewiper it then they normally wont out anything as theres nothing to test.

and there's no blockage in the pipes, checked them.

where abouts is the motor? as it's either that or the wiring.

cheers

lol at some of these comments.

Some people dont even know there just guessing for point of it!

Check fuse, if its got one. Failing that, unclip plug going to motor and check voltage at the plug. If your getting decent V's the motor is probably cooked. Youve not said wether its even trying to spin lol

Google MOT checklists and find out everything they check!

If its blocked, discconect the pipes and blast the shit out with an airgun.

cuz i don't know where the motor is under the engine bay

but it doesn't look like anything is trying to spin.

i'm just going to replace the motor and wiring from my mk3,

can anyone shed some light on where the motor is under the bonnet?

Usually the most obvious solution...

Is there water in the washer tank?

If you operate the washer switch can you hear the motor working, does water piss out all over the floor?

get a power probe to operate the motor, if that makes it work then its the switch that's broken..

it's either the motor or wiring,

however my battery's just thought it'd be a great time to go flat

so gotta charge that up first.

just take the windscreen out, then you wont need wipers or washers

simples.

good one.

Because this is Club Polo.

None working front jets is a fail. None present washer jets is a fail, so long as a windscreen is fitted. Rear washer and wiper are not a test item at all.

Get your mate to pull the washer stalk while you've got your head under the bonnet. Does the pump work?

Yes - Pull the hose off the jets, make sure water squirts out of both. If it doesn't, reattach your hoses, or give then a blow through. If it does, clean/replace your washer jets. If that doesn't work, assume the pump and bottom of the tank are full of shit.

No - Check fuses. Check for voltage at pump. If the pump has voltage but doesn't work. Replace the pump. If there's no voltage, go looking for an electrical problem.

best response so far ha.

i've checked the fuses, none are snapped, but i don't know where abouts the pump/motor and wiring is in the engine bay

ahh that's lame. that's worse than the horn not working fail.

i've just replaced the pump now but i've got to wait until i put the battery in tomorrow to see if it's working or if it's the wiring aswell.

is there supposed to be 2 water pipes coming out from the pump?

because the one i've replaced it with only has one and i have 2 pipes, in other words i don't know which one to plug in.
