still looks mega love the arches, the aero catches are nice smooth descrete touch.

Dent will come out ok in the bodyshop, its fairly thin metal back there and the new panel makes life easier. might be better cutting the last few bits of another coupe, so its a straight line up and weld job. think German ebay does rear arch panels that extend to that area might be worth a look. i know they do squareback ones.

To be honest Richard most of the bent arch won't be there as it's getting cut off underneath the GRP Berg one :-) I'll see what the bodyshop chap says when he sees it in a few weeks. Cheers for the heads up about repair panels.

Panel under the rear light has deffinately helped matters though!

Did have a Titlon setup, but I don't mind the stock one, possibly upgrade once I've got bored of repairing the pdeal box!

One rear arch complete this evening.

Used rubber rivnuts which have a good clamp force against the thin panel and should stop vibrations of the arch transferring to the body. All bolts are M4 (various length) domed cap heads.

Most of this bent arch will be cut off, and both skins re-welded together:

Need to fettle the side skirt to fit now, and do the rear passenger side, then it's off to paint!

Yoofington - Did you do much maths for your rear diffuser and have you got a flat floor?

Giorgioington - No.

However, it was done because the spare wheel well was rusty, so chopped out, replaced with a panel, which left exposed the rear bumper and valance acting as a large parachute. Ergo Diffuser to smooth airflow out at the back.

I looked into wind tunnel time, but it's not my area of expertiese, and is far too expensive to justify.

I could run simulations to theoretically optimise various angles/lengths- BUT I don't have decent data to input, nor can I be arsed to measure every dimension of the car (would rather be driving it!) so simulations would be pointless.

In practice the car did 150mph (GPS) at Bruntingthorpe in the wet with a good length of runway left, and felt quite stable, I'd not want to change lanes at that speed mind...

Regading flat floor- Polos don't do too badly on that front out the box, for ease of maintenance etc I've not bothered, might on my Mk1 though, also the Mk1 exhaust doens't run through the tunnel.

Which kind of rivnut did you use? I've had problems in the past with the ones that swell outwards to create an anchor, in thin material. The metal around them collapsed and the nuts worked loose after time.

The better ones create an anchor by a small flange clamping on the back etc, i found them much better etc.

I have not done a single thing on mine in months so have not got anything beyond a few sheets of mocked-up cardboard in terms of a diffuser (cut my well out before the respray). I was planning to go for a similar 'general theory suggest that'll be reet' approach unless you had any revelations on the matter. Basically I dont want to do CFD any more than you do .

I'm getting a little to excited about this car. top work fella

Car is now ready for the bodyshop- will be going to Eastcote Customs, who did Alex's GT/G40 and Andy's Squareback. They're local to my work, and I'm impressed with both Alex's and Andy's cars so far. Having said that, the repair isn't going to win any concours competitions, but I'd like it to look decent.

Windows have all been removed (bar windscreen) for measurements to be made so a set of polycarbonate ones can be made. I've ditched the winder mech on both windows, and am using the runner so you can slide the window up by hand on both sides, then lock it at the top with a pin. This is because I can't open my windows due to the door bars, and I didn't want to fit electric ones.

Rear window was a pita but all out now:

I intend to take the car to a few shows this year, so needed to find some road wheels. Had several in mind (including a set of HTNs) but decided on these:

Couldn't complain at the price, 7x15 ET35 so are having 20mm spacers all round (rear will be ET5 and front ET15) should fill the arches nicely.

Hopefully the next update will be of some repairs!

Pulled the car out the garage today, gave it a quick wipe over ready for the bodyshop.

Really can't wait to use this on the road again ;D

Also rebuilt my LSD this afternoon, wanted to inspect everything after 2nd gear was floating around the box for a lap of Oulton.

All back together, no damage, and minimal contamination so that's a result. Will stick it in my spare box this week hopefully, then while the car's away I can get the box/engine put together and start getting parts ready for a quick build when it's back.
