Yeah, it's a little shit, but the engine is pushing boundaries of what's been done before, so I expect this kinda stuff to happen, having said that it could have done it after BVF/trackday...

This can't be dead again. It was only this morning when it came blasting past me. Poor thing

So, time for an update...

Everything back together and an MOT pass first time, no advisories:

So, erm... I went to a PistonHeads meet yesterday evening, and erm, blew the bottom end up.

That's the block (or some of it) which was on the M6 Toll

Unfortunately it also took the rad out:

So, some amusing pictures, it's gone through both sides of the block (you can see the exhaust heatshield/clutch cable the other side!)

So, quick e-mail to TPS and a few phone calls later, picking another 1341cc BV head motor up this weekend, got these on the way to me too:

Complete with ARP bolts.

Need to strip down and inspect the engine to find root cause, hopefully the turbo and cam are still fine. So, it's engine back out time, again!

All for now, I'll be back, in the meantime, I'm in the garage.

And were the rods standard items?

Were you driving normally or did it let go under heavy boost conditions?

Robs were stock, let go at what in 3rd (peak torque/speed).

Selling you rad or fixing it yoof, must be cheaper to get a piece like that repaired? shame about the rod but bigger and better

thats a bit rubbish about the rad. i can alloy weld mate if it isnt to damaged! get a photo to me and il see if i could fix it- if its through the core though its dead:-(

Not a bad deal on the rods. I'm half tempted on my 1W whether to make it a fully forged 1473 and go full at it in the quest for 300 or just sell it all off to get my house sorted.

Cheers mate- it is through the core, having said that I'm sure it can be repaired. I've e-mailed a few custom rad places around Warwickshire to see what they can do, will give you a shout if I can't get anything sorted.

Well ignoring the obvious bad news the car looks better than it ever has done!! Looks so good. Hats off to you.

Also sounds like when you have built up the new engine it will be better anyway....

It can be sorted if its through the core.... i bought a alloy rad for the mini, fitted the cowling and the bolts i used were too long, went through a fair bit and split the core in 4 places... dick headdd! sent it to northern radiators i think it was who repaired it for a good price :-)

Rods have arrived, and engine is now out the car, did a proper job of smashing the starter motor too. Engine turns over freely so I'm still hopefull for the head!

Rest of the rebuild bits are on their way from Germany.

Rods retain the same CR?

Rods are same dimensions as stock.

Stripped a little more down tonight, bent valves on No. 3 cylinder, and the piston is 100% mantle piece material now. Head will be repaired with a new set of guides/seats and two new valves.

I'm still not 100% convinced it was a rod bolt that let go first, no one can tell for sure but it seems to be the most probable root cause.

Sump is also dead so I need to weld a new fitting in another sump for the oil drain.

Parts have been shipped from Germany now, so by next week I should have everything for the rebuild.
