Yoof's Polo GT Turbo

Was just wondering mate!

Glad youre back on the road

You gonna up the boost now its stronger?

Nah, staying at 1.5bar it breaks things often enough at that power, when it's back to full boost I'll give you a shout and we can go out in it.

I guess you'll be right on the edge of detonation with that boost pressure won't you pete?

No point winding up the boost so far you have to decrease spark advance or majorly increase inlet temps to ward off det.

The turbo has a little more to give, as you increase boost pressure/turbo speed generally you'll move outside peak efficiency, meaning you've got to put more energy into decreasing compressor out temps (I think you mean decrease, not increase inlet temps) I could probably increase the jetting on the aquamist, and improve flow over the intercooler, but it's quick enough, and I've got no desire to have any more power, just reliability.

Which to be fair, given that old motor it's due, it's done 15k with 200bhp+ several lbs of nitrous, and lots of methanol/optimax, so it's been a fighter, and probably the most reliable bit of the powertrain so far.

Haha fair enough man! Yeah we shall do indeed, can always swing by yours after work one day.

And I was wondering if max meant decrease inlet temps too!

The rods any lighter than the stock ones?

Yeah lol decrease, was rushing to type that.

In the hurry to assemble everything I didn't weigh it, I don't know the composition of a stock rod to work out it's density compared to the forged one (they won't be a million miles away from each other) so given the forged is larger I'll assume it's heavier.

Lol shutup losers.

This coming to action pete? you promised passenger rides 8-)

Not sure, passenger rides if the strip if free enough, if not I'll be running solo as I want to get some decent times in ;)

Will have to buy a new turbo before then anyway:

Another £580...

Waaa, what's that from?

Not happy with theaturbo then pete? K03 the plan or a hybrid? I do remember reading somewhere on CLUBG40 you were trialling it and might end up resorting to your old item. Don't remember what that was though haha.

Turbo is nice - just got damaged with some snapped rod/damaged piston/bent valve debris. It wasn't possible to see that damage with just the downpipe off, and the Garrett roller bearing turbos seem to mask damage well - it was still in balance with no unusual play!

That picture didnt load on my phone last night :-( I see now... expensive do!

No chance of rebuilding this one Pete? Or is it toast?

Gutted you couldn't get it sorted for the track day after all the effort you two put into trying to get it done in time. I know of a nice cheap low mileage reliant robbin that's for sale if your interested :ninja:

Heroic effort Pete, heroic!

Yeah was a pain, but better to miss driving the car, than bugger an engine etc by ragging it when it's not 100%. Don't tempt me with 3 wheel goodness

Heroic effort Pete, heroic!

Cheers- more insane than heroic but keeps me out of trouble.

Pete, could you list the different set-ups and what power each one of them made?

  • 3 weeks later...

not the best of luck, but boy its looking great, new engine will be amazing with forged internals

Would love to see this out on track.

Trailer Queen!

Lol. If you drove it on the road you'd understand why Yoof tends to trailer it...

Trailer Queen!

£1000 if you can drive it what down an a-road without the following:

a) You end up in a hedge

b) You end up on the other side of the road and then in a hedge

c) It breaks

d) You end up in a hedge

I'll upload a vid from Curby today, full on wheelspin throughout 2nd with full slicks, eventually 3rd had enough and decided to bid for freedom!

Depends what kinda hedge were talking. Nout wrong with some bush. Bahahah

Gearbox is fineee! Just chuck some chemical metal on there! Third is over rated as a gear anyways

Ouch! At what point during the day did that happen? Did you get much track time in?
