Toby- I'd accomplished what I wanted to with the car, to do a budget ITB conversion and have it working properly, took over 18months and alot of time and effort from myself and mostly Andy (a few other people too :-) ) but it was time to move on to bigger and better things and put the money towards something different again- however I'd like to return to throttle bodies at some point, hust getting power is expensive.

Yoof, I don't quite know how to say this but.....

This would be THE PERFECT mk3 if you had one more thing....

P.S. John asked on page 2 if those are mk2 arches or just GT ones smoothed, kinda curious too so I'm repeating his question!!

The arches are smoothed and painted Mk3 ones- they've cracked over the contanst abuse I've given it the past 2 years

Getting up early tomorrow to detail it and get her ready for the rolling road day- should be good i hope

Probably time to update this thread :-)

After finishing the throttle body conversion I was happy- until I drove my brother's car (Andy) a G40 with a turbo strapped to it. The torque was insane and I loved the way you could plant your foot in any gear, and hold on! So although I loved the throttle bodies very much, winter 2007 was time for a change...

A freshen up of my tired bay was in order, lots of different engines had taken its toll on the paint:

New engine in place:

Stich welding and necessary chassis strength added:

Upgraded fuel pumps- should flow enough for 350bhp... plenty!

Back home over t'pit:

The inspiration:

After lots of testing, research with plugs & gaps and tweaking of a few ignition components it hit the rollers, made 203bhp and 195lbft at Aldon- despite wheelspinning, a recent tweak and tracking set-up showed 214bhp & 208lbft at Brooklands college rolling road- I've since got my methanol injection working and advanced the timing, hoping for 220bhp+

THen it was time to stick a subframe on the car- tried and tested design and could finally afford one after selling 10 or so

Went straight on, about 2 hours to fit, and didn't require tweaking- although as stock my wheelbase was 25mm different side to side.....

Quick clean before GTi Festival (those of you with eager eyes will see a certain Mk1 under a cover- hoping to be at Polo Show with it :-) )

Have definately raised the bar in terms of 1341 G40. Proof right there that 12s are possible.

By the end of the summer if I can start hitting them sort of times then I will be very very pleased, but I know how much tweaking has gone into that car since you dropped the lump in.

Awesome work on the mk3 turbo, what I'd give for that engine, you must really surprise some people out on the roads

Ah, turbo animation was a quick 2 day knock up to hand something in, could have done lots more (insert other alcohol related excuses here)

Mk3 is good on the road, currently needs suspension issues sorting out, can't push too hard at all on uneven roads due to camber issues, subframe has helped no end though- I'd not want this power without one, really key on the strip or when running sticky tyres with lots of traction as keeps suspension geometry in place, instead of moving about like stock...

Mk1 should outflank it in most areas to be honest, I've got alot of work to put into it though- Andy has agreed to take on the project with me now, so should be a good example of what a motorsport engineer and electronic engineer can acomplish (when they both have an unhealthy interest in Polos!)
