It works for a while. Then you end up trying to do a head gasket on a car that's full of K-seal.

Just do a HG, it's not like it's hard on a Polo.

i had contemplated it in the past, but the residue it leaves it apparently the worst!

a headgasket change wont cost more than 50 odd quid in parts, an evenings time and you can know that the car will be in a decent state, and you can sleep easy if you sell it on.

have you had a leak-down test yet?

Its a get you home fix rather than proper fix!

No i haven't yet. I just replaced the expansion tank/cap and thermostat and flushed the system but still having the same problem so in my mind in cant be much else other than hg right? Just seems to over-pressurise really quickly. Got quoted 40 quid for a leak-down test and that just seems like wasted money to me right? especially when there's not a lot else it can be other than hg?.. correct me if i'm talking out of my poo-hole?

if you can blag the garage into thinking youll get the headgasket done there, they will usually do a leakdown test for free. then when you have the results, tell them youll be back tomorrow and do know, armed with your new knowledge.

if you get the head off, its worth taking it to an engineers, get them to pressure test it and check the bottom to see if its straight and within spec, skim as neccessary (around 25 quid) and then refit.

if you really wanna do it on a budget, just reuse the headbolts and simply get a new headgasket and change the oil/coolant.

would you do the headgasket change yourself?

No i probably wont do it myself, having never done one before it seems like quite a daunting task. Plus i dont have spline tools or anything. I have a little backstreet type mechanic friend who does some of the more difficult stuff for me, he has said he'll do it for £50-75 labour.

Gonne get him to chuck a new waterpump and cambelt at it at the same time, seems silly putting a 3-year old cambelt back on.

on that note can anyone supply tightening(and loosening) sequence if poss please?

Edit: dont worry, found them in the faqs

I used it on my Jetta and it played havok on the waxstat on the carb. Kept jamming it up so when it was cold it was revving up like a bastard. Did the job though haha Well untill I actually saw steam coming from the back of the head. Turned out 1 of my core plugs was rotten and was peeing coolant all over my exhaust.
