front suspension clattering when driving

Featured Replies

after fitting the front suspension , when driving it makes a clattering sound when going over bumps . a sort of metal on metal slap, not sure if i have just forgot to put something on , everything is done up tight, maybe i needed to take something off the old suspension ? or maybe the top mounts are fucked ? or god knows ? any help would be massively appreciated , !!

nope lol ,. but its kinda like something isnt right , almost loose , like there should be something like a bump stop or alike , failing that i could replace top mounts to see if this be the problem

Most aftermarket shock inserts for polos are slightly too short. What I normally do is chuck a couple of 2p's down the strut before I put the shock in to make up the shortfall, then pour some antifreeze down to stop them seizing in the strut.

If you put the antifreeze in before the 2p's, you can make a wish when you drop them in, but I can't guarantee it'll come true.

Yeah, those top mounts look about fucked.

had a similar problem my 6n,with new top mounts

i bought some exhaust rubbers to go under the top cap (as pictured by yourself )

it gave the top cap something to bite into, bringing the top mount up in the process

tightened it up a treat

similar to these

pikey method. i likeeeee

could i get away with just new top mounts and maybe those rubbers ? without removing all the suspension ? obviously its not stock suspension ,.

As far as I'm aware those cups never sit flush

mine have NEVER on all my polos on stock and aftermarket suspension kits

i would like it to sit flush tbh as when you jack it up it goes flush which is fucked up as when you hit bumps/potholes the suspension legs clearly moving up and down :?

when on stock it was fine , just after new suspension its a oisy sack of shit ! sound like iron man is clapping every time i hit a bump, might slap some new top mounts on and use some of those exhaust rubbers

i might have to do the same, new top mounts stopped mine for about a week, thats after i put lowered shocks in too. with standard shocks and lows it was doing it too.

driving down bumpy roads sounds like GAY

makes sense to use a rubber thought , I'm gonna go buy 2 tomorrow and see what difference it makes ,

let me know how it goes!

let me know how it goes!

most definately will dude !

worked for my 6n :-)

and as said the exhaust rubber gave the top cap something to bite against when tightened down, which in turn pulled the top mount up better

Think i also have this problem. Mine has always done it tho. It did with standard shocks and springs, and still does it with 60mm lowered kit. Does that exhaust rubber thing actually solve it? Because i cant be bothered with removing the front struts again.

Thats whats happenin with mine its my drivers side rattles like fuck over rough ground, and as its lowerd round 80 -90 its nasty shit, could it be the top mount or is it the wish bone ?

cheers

i took suspension out today and replaced the top mounts , to be honest , they werent actually that bad , i also dropped some 2ps down the strut for good luck too ! thanks yeti !! and slapped it all back together , used some round exhaust rubbers too , one on each side like so .

to be honest , if you just use the rubbers you guys with the problem should notice a massive difference , and as you will know , only will need to remove that top nut ,

rides and handles so much nicer now too ! no more clattering :D

RESULT !!

sickkkkkk I'm doing thiS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
