the 2ps in the struts seemed to work for me aswell

my suspension is now worth 8p more ! haha ,

i took suspension out today and replaced the top mounts , to be honest , they werent actually that bad , i also dropped some 2ps down the strut for good luck too ! thanks yeti !! and slapped it all back together , used some round exhaust rubbers too , one on each side like so .

to be honest , if you just use the rubbers you guys with the problem should notice a massive difference , and as you will know , only will need to remove that top nut ,

rides and handles so much nicer now too ! no more clattering

i dont understand how this would work unless coating it with grease as the cup has to spin freely so if you jam it up with a rubber mount then it will hinder your steering surely?

it still moves , its rubber , it has movement , steering is so much better than before too , your not jamming it with a rubber mount , its adding a support between the cup and chassie . i like it ,

Because even with brand new parts the cup bangs up and down which isn't gonna be doing anything any good.

Banging noise could also be caused by the steering arm rubbing/hitting the brake servo when you go over bumps. Very common problems when Polos are taken down 60mm or more

And mines lowered around 80mm at the front and its still quite far away.

I'm really sorry for the stupid question.. what is '2ps'?

I have the same problem. I just finished mounting a new set of Bilstein VNE-4501 and BNW-2848 along with some pedders lowering springs and found that mine also makes a horrible clatter when u go through potholes and general uneven road, and also the steering makes some clunking / scraping sort of noise now too, I'm wondering if as i have read, that its too low, but its hardly lower than stock at all, you would have to have a standard height and my car alongside each other to notice it.

How do you tell if the top mounts are worn out? do they increase they're 'cup' depth as they are stretched longer and longer?

Only reason why i ask is that i sent it for a wheel alignment today and they said that they could not do it for the fact that the strut does not sit properly on its mounts, but thats when they had it in the air, and with such a gap with no pressure on the strut tower holding it into its mount, that was always going to happen surely? Doesn't the weight of the car and the rubber mount under the strut tower ensure that the strut is centrally located when bearing weight?

okay so it is what it thought it would mean, but how do you put 2 coins down a strut? where would they go? (sorry for the seemingly silly question) I'm guessing our australian 20c coin would do roughly the same thing

you have to take the shock insert out of the strut and put the 2p at the bottom, then refit the shock insert.

you can also fill the gaps with fluid

forgive me, after looking at the posted pics some more, I'm talking about a 6n1, which appears to look different than the ones here (I'm new to this polo world, so forgive the stupidity)

where the top mount has compressed which is creating that void when lowered etc, ill grab a new one from the local parts specialists and see how i get on in the first instance, then a exhaust hanger mount will be the next port of call...

Top mount issue or insert problem? Just to clarify only mk's 1-3 have shock inserts. 6n onwards has shock struts as one unit.

attached are 2 top mount pics, the silver ones are okay, the red ones are cactus, see how the silver ones are recessed which when fitted with their top caps, would be a snug fit.. the red ones protrude

How would you fix 6n2s then.
