I know of two on here.....jamie and simmy...cant remember the exact user names but if you search the gallery you will find the build threads

They fitted 20vt's tho Sean, that video is of a boosted 1.6 gti engine by the look of things

How deep are your pockets? It's not a cheap game, I'm looking to do it on the cheap but how successful or reliable it will be is anyone's guess

The manifold/turbo used to be a regular thing for sale on ebay.de, don't see them on anymore.

yeh i mean i dnt want to do a 1.8 20vt convesion .. would rather just strap a turbo onto the GTI .... well how hard doya think it can be ?? i just dnt know if th engin could handly it .. iam thinking of buyin the turbo and stuff on the golf gti 1.8 and just see how that goes lol

btw would it be cheaper to put a 1,8 20vt in or just putting a turbo on the standard GTI engin?

If you turbo a standard polo GTI engine, the weak link will be the gearbox. They're known to go with normal driving, never mind with a turbo.

If you want to turbo a Polo, I suggest you buy mine as it's the only one running the 02T gearbox out of the lupo and is the only one which will take the abuse without having to have the box rebuilt with an upgraded LSD and internals.

I'll be advertising in the next couple of weeks.

There is a build thread somewhere on here of someone supercharging a 6n2 1.4 16v engine if you dig that out of the depths of the forum then you will have a rough understanding of how much work is involved in using forced induction on one of these style engines.

Pretty sure that guy used forged pistons and rods, balanced crank, lots of head work including bigger valves and ported and polished.

Lots and lots of cash need if you want performance and reliablity.

Ill try find that build thread for you and post it on here.

There it is i know its not a 1.6 gti or turbo but its still forced induction on this style of engine.

You'd probably want aftermarket management aswell which would set you back abit.

not saying its not do able you just need the disposable cash.

Hope that helps

How much depends on how well you know your way around a engine and if you want it to last. Just strapping a turbo to your engine will end in only pain unfortunately, if only it was that simple.

Things you need to take in to account...

Management, probably best to go for some kinda of standalone set up so you can fine tune it

Compression ratio, there are many ways to skin this cat, easiest would probably be a de-compression plate but this can mess with cam timing slightly and can be a bot of a weak point if you want to run big boost. Forged pistons designed to drop the compression to a more suitable level is probably the best option but these ain't cheap. Then there's the slightly Pikey way of having the pistons skimmed by a machine shop to drop the comp ratio, this is the route I'm looking to go lol.

Con rods, not sure if these are as much of a weak point on the avy as they are on the earlier afh, if so and you want to run big boost then its well worth looking into uprated rods because if they give up the ghost it isn't going to be pretty and it certainly won't be cheap to repair.

Every thing else is pretty obvious, turbos can be picked up cheap enough used if you want to keep costs down but make sure you do some home work to see which one is right or your needs before buying. Exhaust manifold could be done cheap by using an afh one and having the flange modified so a turbo bolts on to it, looks very easy and is the way I'm looking to go, but fancy after market jobbies are available or custom manifold can be made (think Phil j on here my be able to sort them).

Tbh the list goes on but just to give you some idea of what's involved. As for the 20vt option a good set up from a reputable company will be around the 7k mark, even going all out with turbo'ing your engine I would be suprized if it cost you half that, even less if you take dome of the cheaper options available...

But take this with a pinch of salt as I haven't actually done this its just what I have picked up on here while reading up on turbo'ing a afh, no punt some one with much more knowledge on Tue subject will be along soon enough

yeh I've heard the gear boxes go alot on GTIs :/

ermm well i was thinking of buying a polo with the 1,8 20vt conversion done but i really hate nt telling insrance about mods... silly i know

I've been puled over some many times and ask if mods are declared! cba getting car taken off me :(

plus declaring a 1.8 20vt conversion on a vw polo will be stupidly high haha

yeh man thanks for the advice.... i mean this would be a project i would under take in the winter sometime ....

declare the car off the road and do it then over time...

like i said i was only wondering cos it would be sick as fook but yeh i can understand it would be alot of work on the engin.....

i could save alot doing it myself cos I've rebuild engins before.... never delt with turbos tho :/

but thanks again for the help man :D

dont think that guy is active anymore but you can understand how much work is needed just by looking at his thread, hope you keep us posted on your work may give us some inspiration. I'm thinking about turboing a 1.6 afh hybride engine using forged internals, aftermarket engine management and custom exhaust manifold.

its just finding the money to fund it. good luck with the project!!!

p.s. id advice declaring your mods dude it will cost you more in the long run if you dont and you get caught out

I Help build that engine :D the gearbox was broken in a week!

over 300bhp is possible but they have run with a lower turbopressure..

on g-laderseite is a guy that build a same engine but bit more tuning to it, that engine is broken too.. the oilpumpe was broken.
