My names Luke, I'm from north devon and this is my Polo! Please bare in mind this is done on VERY MINIMAL funds! I am not going to spend loads of money on a 1.0 Polo, not that i have the money any way

1998, 1.0L, purple. I found it on ebay cheap only on 72,000M but it wasn't in very good condition! When i got the car home it looked like this:

First thing was to cure the "death wobble" caused by the plank of a previous owner cutting the springs. He cut them so much they were doing nothing! Back to ebay, i found some new 40mm lowering springs for £40. I know its best to upgrade shocks as well but its only a 1.0 my plan was to put it on coil overs in the future any way :-)

Next up the tires were all different profiles. I had some BK alloys with OK tires kicking around so on they went! I also decided to put a bunch of stickers on the boot! (didn't last long)

There was still a few days until my test so i sorted out a temporary sound system. This consisted of a JVC head unit and a 4 channel Pioneer amp powering a kenwood 12" sub and a pair of Infinite 6*9s. (6*9s = ) All the sound was from the back of the car but it sounded okay and was only temporary, also it was cheap as i had everything laying around already.

The car stayed like this for a few months as i just passed my test so i was driving it too much to worry about anything else

I had a moment in the ice and bumped a frozen bank after a 540 spin This shows the rust situation on the car as well lol!

This pushed the bumper back a bit and bent all the mounts ect I Went to the scrappy and found another polo exactly the same and had the whole front in inc doors for £70 which cured most of the rust issues on the car! The only other rust bits are sills and a few bubbles on the back arches.

Next up was to sort a little better sound system first up i brought a brand new Alpine head unit (half price of course £140)

Then i blagged my dads Vibe 6*9s as my Infinite's were shagged. I really do hate 6*9s but they were free and the shelf was already cut! and as a bonus the doors i got from the scrappy had Sony speakers in. So i put these on the Pioneer amp and started looking for a new sub & amp!

Another bargain on ebay with 2 12" Vibe subs in a Vibe enclosure for £41 :-) Then a brand new Toxic 1500 for £45 delivered. I know all this stuff (except the headunit) is cheap and not good quality but it sounds good enough for me and as said before is CHEAP!

In the end, due to not wanting to spend money on up grading the electrical system, i removed the Pioneer amp and ran the door speakers and 6*9s on the headunit

I then decide a colour change was in order :-D I had a week off so me and my dad used a family friends garage and got started! The colour is VW Raven blue (used the same paint that we used to colour code my dads T5) The base coat was Subaru Mica blue that we had laying around! Obviously at this point all rust was taken care of and most dents sorted (missed a couple ).

While the windows were out i decided to DIY tint them limo black! Came out okay but not professional standard lol!

De-wiper and de-badged the back, a bit of smoothing

I also changed the tires at this point as they were VERY illegal! Toyo proxe T1-r for £28 a corner

Finished paint.

A mate was sold me an induction kit for £15 that he removed from his 1.4 Seat Arosa.

Next i brought a badge less grill, clear blinkers, smoked side repeaters and some aero wiper blades.

I still need to get another amber bulb for my other clear blinker! I will do this one day

This is my mates Arosa, ignore his wheels! (Banded steelies soon)

I would love to do something with the interior but i refuse to spend lots of money on a 1.0! If anybody has some suggestions then let me hear them! I may be selling up soon as well

a bit off topic but I am so jealous of the fact you live in devon, its such a beautiful place I passed through there to pick up my polo from falmouth, cornwall. don't ask me why I went 300 miles for my polo.

Its pretty nice here but there isnt very much to do especially where i am! Jobs are also a nightmare! that aside its a nice place to live :-)

Thanks man, I'm happy with how it came out but I'm not happy with the lack of grunt, so I'm either selling up or doing an engine swap before i do anything else to make it look nice :-)

Tiny update:

Started a new rather poo job so there hasn't been much happening to the car. I had an incident with a low hanging branch and my back window.. It worked out cheaper to buy a whole new tailgate than to replace the window, and it solved the savage dent the branch left above the number plate.

I also came across a smoothed 16v bumper in primer ready to paint for pennies so grabbed that as well.

I should be giving the whole car a blow over and sorting the bumper and boot soon..ish then it will be time to sell! :)

Yeah it was hanging I was going to replace it anyway! Thanks, after the 16v bumper and quick respray/tidy up I will be selling

Bad things and this car go hand in hand! Some T@£T drove into the side of it in the supermarket car park and left a very nice dent!

Coilovers

Having issues with seized adjusters anyone?

I've always been recommended plusgas to unseize coilovers better than wd40, soak your coilies in some plusgas overnight and then try to crack the adjusters off see if you can get a wire brush between the springs to clean some of the corrosion off. HTH

Cheers mate i will give it a shot if the penetrative spray i brought doesn't work!

If you can take the springs off (might need compressing, so be careful) then it's much easier to unseize/move the adjusters

Also thought you were selling? piss take about the rear quarter panel, hope you got their insurance details!

I was mate but i am owed money that still hasen't made its way to me yet so i can't afford anythng else till i get paid

Yeah it might come to that i have un-sezed one by soaking and leaving for a few days(on the car) i have now soaked another one with penertratve fluid so next time i can get under it hopefully that will be two done! Then i will do the rears at the same time :-)

I have but I'm 100% sure they will write my car off because it will cost £250+ to sort it They aren't going to give me much for a 1998 1.0 are they? I'm trying to get some cash out of the bloke so hopefully that works! It's a pain because I'm going to have to spend more money on tracking and camber and now this cars stating to owe me a reasonable amount of money!

No chance mate, its going to have a crease all around the dent! Any way the car has died on me anyway, some sort of electrical problem, someone is coming to have a look asap
