In need of an AVY rocker cover if someone can help me out? i can collect if youre within 60miles of northants, or meet you at the polo show?

Please could you list the part number you have on the rocker itself if you have one and perhaps also the part code for each cam (exhaust and inlet).

I'll have to let you know mate- you got a part number to the head and rocker cover on that engine? the part number should be on the front of the head and on top of the rocker in between the spark plug holes.

haven't got it to hand mate as its down my garage but if you wanted it it would be the top end and bottom end. No ancillaries too. Not to sure when i can get the part number for you

I'm having the worst time of my entire life right now!!

The bottom end is an AVY, the head came off a 2001 AVY...the rocker is also off an AVY but for some stupid reason the cam shafts are opening up valves when piston 1 is at TDC...so wont turn over by hand with my cambelt on...my audi tech mate reckons i need a matching rocker for the head as the two i have arent the right ones.

I thought all AVY rockers were the same?? i know the difference between the AVY and ARC is the emmissions maps- ARC has EU3 and AVY has EU4- so could it be that they changed the cam positioning to help carry out the map? or am i missing something small here??

not taken them out bro...just literally re-installed the roller rocker cover as it was when i came off.

Sounds like the timing is 180 degree's out, I can't imagine vw changing the timing marks mid way through production?

This may be a really stupid question but are you sure you are using the correct cam timing mark?

Sorry mate, the head off of that GTI went to the land of scrap =S though i dont think itd be much help as it was an ARC also....theres a guy splitting an AVY in the for sale section...user "Toady"

I'v contacted Toady...hopefully he has a head with the part number: 036 103 373 AD (i dont know the part number of the matching rocker for this and worse of all i can't see it appear on ETKA at all!).

The damaged head (off your old GTI mclovin- two lifters failed on the inlet side and the cams started to throw them about in the head chewing up the cam lobes above cylinder 4) is 036 103 373 AH and matching rocker is 036 103 475 BB.

I got my audi and skoda technician mates to do the timing- i'll mention the 180deg out thing, perhaps they know what this means...

I know the head i have on the engine now is off an AVY- just don't get why i cant find it on etka to check what the rocker cover part number is and what code the inlet/exhaust cams are so i can see if theres a difference.

To time up we placed the locking pins into the holes on the cams- inlet hole lined up with the hole in the rocker to the left and exhaust also to the left. The crank pulley timing mark was lined up with the small mark on the oil pump and we confirmed Piston 1 TDC by putting a screwdriver in the spark hole.

If i can confirm the head i now have on my engine is an AVY one, then i can figure out what cams i need but i have a strong feeling i have the wrong head or something happened to the cams.

No need for this now...all sorted and polo will now be at the show :-D

Turned out the exhaust cam pulley had lost it's lock...so it span seperate to the cam shaft! swapped the pulley and within an hour it fired up...HAPPY DAYS!
