Roboffs Flash Red 1.0 L

Featured Replies

Yo guys,

Been lurking around here for about a year now, but never had a car so didnt really post, however I have now got my very own polo.

Its a 1997, its a 1.0 l and the only form of gadgetry on it is the power mirrors. It did have a CD changer, but it had no shelf inside, so whipped that out:(

As i got it

IMG_3175.jpg

obligatory stance shot, working those wheels trims :)

It needed a good clean, so took all the carpets out, cleaned the boot out, tried to bring the steels back to life, but they are in need of a lick of paint.

IMG_3177.jpg

IMG_3179.jpg

Items of interest found whilst cleaning, and yes the pen works.

IMG_3180.jpg

best i could do on the steels, look better than the trims anyway.

IMG_3181.jpg

What do you mean 'arch gap'?

Needs a bit of work doing to it, i cant actually drive yet so I'm not going mad on it until i can. My mum has to drive it anyway, so she doesnt want to be driving a slammed polo. I know theres quite a few of the unphased guys around me, so if you see my car it'll be my Mum driving it.

Plans for the near future:

Go over all the brakes, engine and stuff. Think the handbrake needs doing.

Fix all the dents, scratches etc

Paint the Steels

New ariel

New plates

De badge and Bump Strip

Maybe clear indi's, not sure on them yet

6n2 rears

Then when its all mine:

Get it wound down on some coilies

Wheels, haven't decided on any yet, something with a bit of dish either way

Something with the interior

Sort the ICE out

Well thanks for reading, let us know what you think, any suggestions and stuff

Cheers!

  • Got abit more work done on the little Polo :) Noticed the door and back arch where getting abit scabby, few small bits all over, biggest was about 5cm x 5cm, but wanted to get it sorted sooner rather

Flash red 1.0's for the win!

Exactly how mine was when I got it :)

STRAY LEGO FTW!!!!!!!!1111

Looks like a good base

The pen works... But does the pencil?? :ninja:

haven't had a chance to test it yest :) It was in the spare wheel, seems and odd place to put a pencil. Picked up some paint this morning so gonna get up to my grandads and hopefully get a few dents sorted, and the mirror painted. Get it looking a bit tidier.

Pretty nice base to start with :) Mine came with dents, and scrapes... even a dent underneath the front left mudflap haha

Just need to lower it to your liking, so it's no longer a monster truck :p

nice 1st car, i started with a 1.0l mk4 great car :) mine never let me down once :)

  • Author

Thanks guys :) Yeah it deffinately does need lowering, but i dont really want to do it until i can actually drive in it, so its gotta wait unfortunatly. Few other things to get on with anyway. Going to try and get the steels painted up this week so it looks a bit neater, surprised they where so bad, but then it is a 14 year old car afterall.

Right guys, bit of an update on this. Sorry its a big one, haven't been able to get them up. Some of the pictures are a bit naff aswell, not much room in thegarage, and my cameras a bit shoddy. So sorry for that aswell.

Started with a box of bits, felt like christmas

IMG_3189.jpg

Started at the front, new cambelt, alternator belt and a new pollen filter. Did the oil and filter aswell.

IMG_3183.jpg

Got the front end off so we could get the bumpers painted.

IMG_3185.jpg

All the crap that fell out the arches

IMG_3186.jpg

Looking a bit sorry for itself.

IMG_3192.jpg

Got the bumper prepped and painted.

IMG_3203.jpg

IMG_3190.jpg

IMG_3213.jpg

Gave the steels a lick of paint aswell. Just took pictures of one wheel throughout.

IMG_3197.jpg

IMG_3199.jpg

IMG_3205.jpg

IMG_3209.jpg

How they came out, look pretty nice.

IMG_3222.jpg

Did the mirror that was an odd colour.

IMG_3238.jpg

The pane had a huge dent on it. Tryed to knock it out, but it was still quite bad. So back to bare metal it went.

IMG_3193.jpg

IMG_3195.jpg

IMG_3210.jpg

IMG_3220.jpg

Had to do the same on the wing.

IMG_3201.jpg

IMG_3208.jpg

IMG_3216.jpg

Moved onto the back, got the bumper off for paint. Gave it all a good clean underneath.

IMG_3229.jpg

IMG_3234.jpg

IMG_3235.jpg

Got the interior out and gave it all a good scrub, came up okay.

IMG_3227.jpg

De wipered the back and got the polo badge off. De bump stripped it aswell.

IMG_3239.jpg

IMG_3240.jpg

Gave the rocker cover a polish. Its not mirror finish, but its better than it was.

Before

After

IMG_3260.jpg

Got some new bits at VWNW aswell today. Still need to get these on though. New plates, with 3D effect B) and some valver rears.

IMG_3269.jpg

IMG_3254.jpg

So, after a weeks hard work and breathing in more paint fumes than can be healthy, this is the polo as it stands.

Whats next?

Thanks mate. Well I've got some 16v rears for it, so going to put those on. Was tempted by some banded steels at VWNW but theyd been sold, so i dunno really. Fancy some G60s for it maybe? Any suggestions? :)

Cool.

Depends on your budget really.

I find g60's boring personally, everyone seems to have them lol.

These would look cool on a red car - http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=253316

They're 13's though :S

I quite like the 7 and 8J classics that you can get new. I'm unsure on 13"s thought cause i odnt want ti rediculously low, i still want to be able to drive it places haha. I'll have to see what comes up cheap, i'll get watching wheel whores :D

Looking good!

Right, a few pics of the new lights, have to say I'm not sure on them yet. They dont look as dark in the photos, maybe in day light they'll look better. A lad at Training 2000 has a valver and his look oreyt, i dont know if its cause its red maybe? Would deffiantely prefer 6n2's, or even the original ones i think, let us know what you think of them anyway.

Put a few stickers on aswell. 'Fox' Fox and BANG TIDY!, always a favourite

IMG_3276.jpg

  • Author

Yeah after i put it on i thought a black one would look better, great minds think alike eh? haha. I know its not yet bang tidy, all in due time. Need to think about wheels for it now

Few more little bits on the Polo

Got a new headunit for the Polo, Sony CDX GT25, its not brilliant, but its alot better than the old one.

Crappy old one ( Where can you even buy cassettes nowadays?)

IMG_3340.jpg

Sexy new one, i need to take the AUX sticker off

IMG_3342.jpg

Took me ages to figure out that i need to cross the power wires over, it kept erasing itself every time i started it. Should have read the instructions first

New shoes for the Polo, BBS RZ's :) Just a shame one of the centre caps isnt an original, so its abit different, but not to worry. Gonna get them cleaned up and stick them on :) I took the weights off the outside aswell, is it worth getting them re balanced?

IMG_3376.jpg

Few more new bits :) Team Heko wind deflectors (Cheers Taylor ) dont think they look too bad. Getting the RZ's balanced tomorrow so hopefully get them on soon ;D

IMG_3378.jpg

IMG_3377.jpg

Right, got the new wheels on this morning, got soaked whilst doing it <_< It would also appear I'm very bad at taking pictures

IMG_3382.jpg

Only problem now is its too damn high! Hopefully get it sorted soonish

Great work dude!

Reminds me of spraying my bumper haha
