Many moons ago, I made myself a 1.6 16V AFH engine, which was enjoyable

that was a long time ago, and when I sold my car, there were many projects ongoing making some quite interesting motors, what happned to all of them? who has made decent power from them?

Criz had a 1.4 16V with some pretty sick cams, that he was going to 1.6 at some point... anyone know what became of that?

Whitie had a 1.7 16V on Jenvey Throttle bodies, anyone heard from him recently?

I sold a partialy finished 1.4 16V turbo conversion to someone off of here, has anyone heard anything of that, a guy from AMD in Thurrock bought it I think?

MikeyMK had an 8v on bike carbs, that must of gone 16v by now? making good power?

lastly, does anyone know what became of my old engine? it went into a dragon green mk4 which a mate then sold, but cant for the life of me remember who bought it, S717 XHK was its number,?

There must be a ton of 1.6 and tuned AFH lumps around now, has anybody made decent figures?

Criz's car now belongs to dom and was part way through being eaton charged although not sure if he's going the charged route now (hope not cause I want his charger ).

Mikey has gone through a shit load of frankistine 16v's, iirc his latest is a 1.6 16v vvt on bike carbs

There's a user called Joe thats building a supercharged afh and there are plenty of 1.6 afh engine's been or being built. Tbh after you built yours it took quite a while for every one else to cotton on to it but it now seems every ones doing it. I'm mid way through building one to run on the standard afh management in my mk2, although others like saf have taken the bike carb route

Not sure on what people are getting out of them tho as most of the ones I know of haven't been on the rollers

I'm currently midway through a 1.4 16v AFK supercharged from a 6n2 into a 6n looking for around 180-200 bhp

Basically the big brother engine to the AFH

i have criz polo now. engines now a 1.6 on R1 bodies awaiting to be fitted and ecu as the piggyback was crap. i have a eaton waiting to be fitted but think i will leave that for now. i may in the future be changing the bottom end for a 6speed bottom end.

dont no what power i want but hoping for a nice figure but want that noise! it sounded rude and with it coming up to a year of not driving it i miss it soooo much.

i also have one sat in my garage on a stand with ITBs and some S1600 bits bolted to it, know idea what it'll make though (its going in the mk3)

Leeds finest got 130bhp from a 1.6 with mods and bin carbs. I'm putting together a similar setup so chasing similar figures. I think he was having issues with the power coming at the top of the rev range. I'm sticking with a gt cam, so hopefully won't get this problem

Does anyone know of any figures for what Mitch's Lupo is putting out?

It said in pvw it was putting out around 165bhp I think

yeah he told me 165bhp, but that was only on its base map. i think hes had it mapped proper now though.

It seems to be getting to the point that afh's are so readily available that people don't mind blowing a couple up while experimenting

My mates having mine off me once I've fitted the 1.6 and all he wants to do to it is fit bike carbs and see how much laughing gas he can pump in before it explodes

Seems a lot of people taking off the fuel injection and fitting carbs. seems like a backwards move to me!

Long time ago, Nick Wilson (I think) had a 1.4 16v with itbs and I think his special 4 branch exhaust and made 140 bhp, the engine was otherwise stock I believe

Andi on clublupo (Tigz was his username) must have his 1.4 16v up and running on throttles by now, might be worth a look on the lupo forum, as there should be some info on Mitch's 1.6 AFH on bodies on there too

Bike carbs give very good gains over the standard injection setup jez, nothing backwards about it at all its a nice medium between the standard setup and some thing like itb's both in terms of performance and costs.

Iirc bilco was running 140bhp with carbs cams and exhaust and as a bonus getting around 40mpg

what makes you say that, bilco (can't remember his full user name) was running 140+ at the fly from a 1.4, a 1.6 bottom end coupled with all the head work i'm doing to it should be quite capable of 175, but i guess the only way to find out is build it and get it on the rollers!

i'm doing a lot more than just adding an extra 200cc, but time will tell

175 is my benchmark, but tbh, it's a silly light car, with a big engine. whatever figures i end up with it's still going to be fun as hell

i don't think the torque is as much of an issue in a mk2 because it's so damn light! the torque will be there but it's not my main concern, i want to see just how far you can go with an AFH block and besides, bhp figures are much better for bragging rights

your not using the afh block though as like you said your making it 1.6 so will be using a different block wont you

You can still use the afh block Pete, you just fit 1.6 crank and rods

To start getting higher than that, your talking serious money. It'd be cheaper to go forced induction than to try and get 175 out of a N/A
