You got the tyres on yet then matty?

About the engine conversion, my honest advice would be, if your wanting decent power out of the box, get an AFH. 100bhp out of the box ain't bad at all. They're being sold for quite a lot on here however, scene tax. The problem then, in my opinion is that tuning it is pretty costly too, which is where i have most of the fun!

If like me you want to do some cheap tuning and experimentation, then get something like a 1.3 from a mk2-3 or an AEE 1.6 (not as strong though)

Rebuild it, up the compession ratio, gas flow the head, fit a decent cam (GT item is enough), a decent exhaust system and then pick which route you want to go, EFI or carburation. If i were you i would do some sound research on exactly how carbs work and how they're tuned if thats the route you want to go. I chose carburation because it interests me more than EFI , i can tune them myself (which you cant with injection, unless you have the right electronic gear etc) and its cheaper if you know where to look.

I can do all the work on the pistons for you to get the compression ratio up, the rest you should be able to do yourself with the right research/tools.

All the above work to say a 3F (GT) bottom end, using webbers you'll be good for 110bhp, thats G40 power. Yes you could fit an AFH + bike carbs for a lot less hassle and be getting more power, but for me its just not as fun, plus you'll have one hell of a reliable, noisy beast!

I know how carbs work and how. To tune them as my previous beetle ran twin 40s and ran sweet after they where tuned right I don't really want to do the afh as you previously said they aren't reliable neither are the aee blocks so a gas flowed head and gt bottom end is your recommendations then I'll start looking and let the fun begin

Well, when i say GT bottom end, its only because they have a higher compression ratio than the other 1300cc bottom ends available, but if your rebuilding it, you may aswell have that MH bottom end off me, then we can up the compression ratio to above the GT anyway. Plus you can have it for cheap :-D

Carbs it is then.

Could we not up the compression ratio on a gt block though as I may have one if not then mh block it is

Thinner head gasket and a bit of machining on the piston tops and you'll have a higher compression ratio.

If your rebuilding the GT lump, i'll take the pistons off you and do all the calculations/machining.
