Offered a omp steering wheel for free and I have a mk3, the omp wheel has no horn so if I was to run it without a horn and disconnect the current one is that illegal and also MOT failure???

You need a horn for the MOT, so i guess it is a legal requirement.

I had the same issue with lack of horn on my new wheel. So I was going to wire it to the rear wiper switch as I have no rear wiper

Yeah I was either gonna put it in one of the blank things or wire a button to the actual wheel. Sucks its an mot failure aswell.

And it doesn't have one cause it's like a 5 inch Wheel off a drag car lol

In a crash things can turn on you if they find the horn was inoperable at the time of collision.

In other words a crash that while not your fault, may or could have been prevented had you audible warning device been working will end up with the insurance company shitting on you.

tbh, i hardly use mine.

However, the one time i would have cried without it, was when some stupid old woman was reversing out of a space, nearly into me, even with me sat with the horn on she didnt notice until she was pretty much on top of me. Without the horn my rear quarter would have been no more.

It is illegal not to have a horn . My mate got pulled by vosa last night and got 3 points and 60 pound fine for having a horn got done for having a defective car?Or something along those lines Plus had to have a re mot aswell, but just wire it up to a switch and it should pass mot?

Yeah rewiring sounds the best plan. Does the switch have to be in a certain area??? or could it be on centre console?

Banged it on my mates mini, looks sick! Especially as hes 6 foot 4 and looks like mr bean driving it so may just sell it to him as he can actually get his knees under it

lol my mate had a train horn on his. Was louuuuuuuuuuudd. Had to d/c it for MOT and use the orignial one lol

Dont think theres anything saying where the horn has to be, as long as its within easy reach and obviously marked as the horn (so the tester knows where it is)

I've wired my horn on my mk1 golf into where the cig lighter should be. It's a bit of a reach to push it as it sits just infront of the passenger's knee (just under the LED in the top of the photo) -

It's passed 3 MOTs at 3 different garages and each time they certainly haven't been light on me! So as long as you can push it when driving it can be anywhere I think!

Same here, i ran one for so long i still forget i have one - so given the option between giving other drivers caps-lock treatment or just going about my way and leaving them to it, i do the latter.
