Polo 6N2 16v

Featured Replies

Hello again, some of will have seen my old build thread 'the white knight'. I was gutted to have to sell it and well, after a stint driving the girlfriends new mini I decided I missed it far too much it was time for a new challenge!

Went out today and picked up this little gem, 1.4 16V, heated leathers, electric everything, fsh and all round condition is spot on!!

First plans for the next few weeks

- Lows... might go for fk highsports or AP this time, bit of an upgrade from the Jamex ones I had!

- BMC panel filters

- Gti grill

- De - wiper and badge

- lamin- x the fogs.

Also wheels, got a pretty low budget for now, dont really want to have BBS RA's like the white one had, so might just wait a while as the standard alloys are really good condition anyway

As before, all suggestions and opinions are welcome!

UPDATE - Check below for lots more updates with pictures etc.

Just went on a spending spree and got some bits for my new toy :)

- Weitec GT coilovers

- All new topmounts/bearings (nice and fresh and saves time swapping the suspension)

- Stubby aerial

- Gti Grill

- vw tax dic holder

pleased that I could afford decent suspesion set-up for this car, and its booked in for a service this week!

Today lots of goodies turned up in the post!! pretty much everything except the coilovers.

Gti grill and a stubby aerial, pretty simple but always makes these cars look 100% better

IMG_0017.jpg

IMG_0018.jpg

And even more exciting (for me anyway) is the arrival of all new topmounts/bearing/rubbers for when I fit my weitecs, This saves me having to switch over the old ones with my very crap manual spring clamps and limited space on the drive.

IMG_0019.jpg

Some bad news though, some ignorant nice person has doored my car, probally the most irratating act of carlessness going... so pretty livid about that. Any tip[s on cheaply fixing it will be greatly appreciated! (laser dent puller?)

Another update soon once I have lows fitted :)

Got my weitecs today! going to put them on in the morning, should be quick job as I've set them up ready with the new top mounts! (had to get one of those 22m oxy sensor hex top sockets to do so.. pain!)

Also today took the 1.4 badge off, bit of a schoolboy error really as the difference in colours shows up alot worse on this one than it did on my white car. Still looks alot better, unfortunatly the rear wiper has to stay for now for my girlfriends benefit, might whip it off when shes not around!

Heres the weitecs anyway, well pleased with the pack, you get full instructions/guide, tools and stickers and they appear to be top quality. (A nice step up from the jamex ones, no guide and barely packaged!)

Ill get some pics up once shes set up

Ok lots to update, had the car serviced yesterday (shout to DPH services) and replaced the temp meter so now the temp gauge works!

the EGR valve showed up as a fault on the diagnostics so will get round to that at some point, easy job but a pricey bit (cheapest I can find is £118?)

Also got down to dvla in theale to get my new plate registered!

Most importantly though I fitted my weitecs, the main strut attatchment bolts were a bit seized on the car but nothing a bit of WD40 and some elbow grease could'nt sort out. I tidied up all the cables etc with brackets and zip ties and then greased the threads up a treat so hopefully the lovely british weather cant get to them for a while.

Having all new top mounts definatly made the job alot quicker (down the font anyway)

This is the result, had the toe and camber done so its tracked straight again now. It needs new wheels I know but that will have to wait for now as the recent mods have wiped my wallet clean.

Yes I know it could be lower, but this is a daily driver remeber, and the girlfriend has to drive it (shes yet to get her course in 'adjusting your driving in a low car') haha

I ordered a BMC filter today, and when thats fitted I will be cleaning the throttle body to get slightly smoother running (made a big improvment on the old car)

Anyone got ideas about wheels? I was think cheapy bbs (RA/RZ/E30) but I dont want this to be to similar to the white car, Also love TH monos if anyones got a cheap set??

Rondell 58's look a bit like gti wheels with about an inch of dish, cheep wheels can pick them up for £100-250 i have a set on my car

Just a quick one today, a bit of tactical sticker arrangement.

IMG_0102.jpg

Decided its going to go lower (got 8cm thead left on the weitecs) but may wait until new wheels come to set it up again as it rides really good at the moment.

also found a good price for EGR valves so that will be done soon

Any ideas/suggestions?

Where did you find reasonably priced Egr valves?

Car's coming together nicely. If I were you Id wait a bit for new wheels, you have alot more choice for £250 than you do for £150, if you buy cheap RA's you probly wont be that happy with it.

sorry to rain on you are parade but you are po po aint low, get it deked hahahahhh

yeh if you read the last post I do intend to have it lower, but the girlfriends got to drive it and it does alot of miles so its still got to be practical, not like my old black car!!

also I'm waiting for some new wheels to fiddle with the stance. got loads of thread left on the coilys so plenty of potential :)

btw anyone about to buy new coilys, I recommend the weitecs, the ride is amazing, firm but as comfy as plenty of standard cars I've driven.

Ebay mate, but Id do your research and get the right part number for your car as there a couple of different types and the adverts are hardly helpful. The main two for 1.4 16v are the 036131503R and the 036131503M (my car)

If you type the part number there into ebay it should come up, think they are about £60 (better than £130!) What I did was juts ring up a garage and get them to check on their computer which one I needed then I can buy it cheap :)

thanks, yeh I'm not going to rush into it, the wheels on there arnt great but fine to be going on with, and as you so rightly say with that bit extra cash my choices are much broader! My mates got some ats classics and I've always wanted some so maybe those.

Big Update...

Been tinkering quite a bit this week so a fair bit of new stuff for the car!

New lamin-x Jdm bulbs (dipped, main and fogs) and tints for the fogs

IMG_0110.jpg

fogs before..

IMG_0111.jpg

And after

IMG_0112.jpg

IMG_0114.jpg

IMG_0160.jpg

I've had a engine warning light on for a while now and the diagnostics reported a fault with the EGR, so got my self a new valve and while I was fitting it i cleaned out the whole system, stripped and cleaned the throttle body (both of which were almost clogged with dirt!) and replaced the panel filter with a K&N filter...

engine bay before..

IMG_0075.jpg

Old and new EGR valve

IMG_0157.jpg

IMG_0158.jpg

Filthy throttle body

IMG_0152.jpg

IMG_0153.jpg

And after a good clean

IMG_0154.jpg

New filter

IMG_0156.jpg

IMG_0155.jpg

The bay after a bit of a clean up

IMG_0162.jpg

Final thing, Wound down my coilys some more (I know its not mega slammed but remember this is proper daily driver) While I was at it I encountered a problem with the weitecs, rather than a lock ring they have a grub screw to lock the height position of the strut. and as the insert is just plastic, it has threaded already :( bit of a shit design for £500 coilys. Although the ring shouldnt move with the weight of the car on it I decided to be safe and found some coilover lock rings on ebay to fit on there and lock them in position (I'm not taking the suspension off and sending it back to germany for the sake of a piece of plastic)

The rings

Any photos of your fogs on? I still have normal bulbs behind my lamin-x'd fogs. New wheel centres looking good also :)

Cars looking tidy mate, looking at a very similar stage to mine with my Polo. Just ordered my Splitter and new Indicators!

Why do you need to have those Orange tints on your fogs?

Thanks mate, Yeh its been alot quicker this time, trying to get it back to the standard of my white one but a bit different this time.

I like the yellow tints on the fogs, If you see my old thread my white 6n2 had yellow tints on the main lights which looked pretty cool, but wanted to be a bit more subtle this time.

Ill check out your car!!

Ah nice one mate!

How much is your car lowered by?

  • Author
Ah nice one mate!

How much is your car lowered by?

Its on weitecs and they have 8cm (front) and 6.5 cm (rear) of the thead left. I'm not sure exactly how much it has been lowered Id say around 50/60mm.

I would have gone lower but this car is shared with my girlfriend and used everyday so it had to be practical! :(

still sits a nice height though, will be better with different wheels

love interior, looks realy smart

Looking really good bud! :)

Liking what you've done so far, jealous of the interior and heated seats haha, I reckon a decent set of wheels and the GTI splitter and the car will be looking the tits 8-)
