So I finished off the rear door cards the other day :)

null_zpse30e371f.jpg

null_zps377db2ac.jpg

Bought some vibe blackair speakers to go in there which seem alright. Need to take the rear left door card off again as I forgot to add a foam insert and want to redrill a hole for the speaker casing as it pushes the top of it out currently, however that will have to wait until uni exams are over! :(

Overall though, pretty happy with it!

Just the roof lining to go back in now.

Dave you are a G

I will take you're idea and run with it

Well with mine. Either waste money and get it properly sprayed or do the bodywork myslef and get it done in basecoat, Less money but still a waste

where did you get the rocker gasket from?

VW mate. It used to come with both gaskets and the rocker cover. However the person at parts desk at VW needs to go to order it, then deselect the rocker cover. The outer gasket is £15 and the gasket around the spark plugs is also £15

After using the Polo as a daily lately and focusing on the Corrado, I thought it was about time to give the Polo a service and check up on everything.

Was going to wait until next week however I checked the oil which was low so thought i'd do it all last night!

null_zps0c2bd8c5.jpg

null_zpse58cfd6c.jpg

All sorted for another 6 months!

I had forgotton about this, I had a new one lying about so changed that over as it was starting to spew out some oil.

null_zpsec55eb48.jpg

I also noticed that a vacuum hose and broke off, so trimmed it down and re-attached it.

Also the driveshaft has started to wear away at the chassis slightly. Not sure whether to notch it or not! :/

null_zps2b88424a.jpg

Have my MOT next week, so will change the front coilovers over, raise it up for the MOT and then lower it all again. Apparently these coilovers go lower with the helpers in, so will see about that.... :|

So the polo was due it's MOT, so decided it was time to try out these other coilovers I had lying about.

Unfortunately had to raise it loads for the MOT to get their jack underneath it!

null_zps5656e0c8.jpg

Which then meant it sat like this for a couple of days :/

null_zpscd170183.jpg

null_zps583b2665.jpg

null_zps48cec8ce.jpg

Most comfortable drive i've had in ages

Anyway, polo failed the MOT on the passenger side wheel bearing as it was completely buggered. Serves me right for ignoring all noises the car makes! haha.

Instead of them fitting it and charging me for labour etc, I went and got a spare 6n2 GTI hub off of a mate and bought a new bearing. They pressed it in for me and I set about fitting it the next day!

null_zps36e42702.jpg

Had to take the driveshaft off in the end and idiot it out of the hub! regreased it all and put it back in.

null_zps5ff3fc13.jpg

Refitted it all, only issue I had was the track rod end balljoint kept spinning as trying to do up the nut! Ending up sorting that with a hammer and airtools!

null_zpsf7cb306b.jpg

null_zpsc1a98599.jpg

null_zpsd3ad5a23.jpg

All back together and went through the MOT fine.

Finally got a day off today which allowed me to lower the coilovers again and sort the tracking out after swapping over the hub!

null_zpsa92edf41.jpg

null_zps7bf3fbc0.jpg

And mine and Ashcrofts new Jetta :)

null_zps1e889270.jpg

Only problem is now, the chassis is sat on the driveshaft and pretty sure I need to cut down the bumpstops more.....

Apart from that, pretty happy with the way the front is sitting! Managed to keep the front helpers in too!

Will give it some more love before edition, then my attention will be payed to the Corrado 8-)

So after lowering the coilovers, the drive was horrendous and it was sat on the driverside driveshaft. I gathered it was probably sat on bumpstops so I took it out and cut the bumpstops down even further...basically wasn't any point in having any! Put it all back in to find that it was now even lower (duh!) and still sat on bumpstops....

null_zpsec0924f5.jpg

null_zps3d7a3699.jpg

This is all with the helpers still in. With about 5mm suspension / strut movement I decided to swap back to my JOM springs and add in another piece of the bumpstops. So now have just under 10mm bumpstops in and JOM springs.

The other springs have a much less spring rating compared to the JOMs. The spring difference can be seen below.

null_zps43dd2455.jpg

null_zps45490f87.jpg

I've sort of got it how I want to sit, just need to adjust the rears now. Could do with a notch! If I reallly wanted to go lower I'd need to cut and re-weld the mount on the coilovers further up! But as this is going to take a back seat after edition38, I really couldn't be bothered lol.

null_zpsd8f48e10.jpg

Need to get the wheels re-done and put the roof lining back in next week. Then thats this car done...for now!

Oh I also lost a BBS center cap on the motorway  fortunately managed to pick two up for £25! so currently in the process of sanding them down to be resprayed!

For those interested:

Got bored after putting the headlining back in the polo the other day. Began transfering the mount and slave cylinder over to the new gearbox for the 1.8t...then kinda got carried away.

null_zps8559ce3b.jpg

null_zpsf775e84c.jpg

Massive list of parts to be ordered for it after edition38 ;)

still <3 this polo

Cheers mate ;)

null_zps5fb42552.jpg

I hate cleaning these wheels

null_zpse7b1283f.jpg

Anyway, got retakes this week so wouldnt have any time to do it before edition38!

Also in the midst of respraying a new centercap to replace the one I lost on the motorway  almost forgot!

  • 1 month later...

So I haven't updated this in a while.

I finished spraying the center caps before edition and replaced the one that I lost on the motorway  unfortunately I had an exam retake on the morning of edition38, so I missed our convoy and drove up like a right larry. Took me 6 hours in total due to being stuck in traffic for almost half of it :'( Had a good weekend there though so was worth it!

Anyway apart from the odd thing here and there, haven't done much the olop! The roof threatened to leak once during a torrential downpour, but nothing actually dripped into the car, just the inside seal got wet

But yeah, some pictures and such:
