I've just picked up a 1.3 genesis with tax and test for 200 few minor scuffs here and there but they are minor

Got him down to £600 without an mot, still a pretty good price id say for a car thats fucking mint.

Its mint i do agree. But i still think thats expensive. Especially from a mate

I paid a lot less than that for my coupe AND Breadvan combined lol.

The coupe is rather high specked and it had 12 months MOT

I'd tell him to jog on then buy it for half the price in a couple of months time when he can't shift it

As I've said its not for me its for my mate as a first car, hes fallen in love with it. I paid £650 for my first car, it was a mk3 with like 70k shite bodywork...

If he's happy to pay that then fair enough but if it was my mate I'd have to bitched slap some sense into him tbh

The way to look at it isn't that he's paying 600 for that car because in effect he isn't. He has to add the cost of tax and of mot on top of that and also the cost of what ever it needs for an mot, and no matter how shiny it maybe it could be hiding a whole multitude of sins that may not become apparent until an mot tester gets their hands on it, this is why cars with mot go for a shit load more than the same car without a mot because its a lot less of a gamble.

There is nothing special about this car, its got mediocre mileage and straight body work and that is it, there are many other's just like that for a lot less or the same kind of price but with tax and test, But its his money to do with as he likes, we are just giving advice from our experience of the market to try and prevent him from getting stung

Now see all the replies from people saying "i can get cheaper else where" live up north.

Its a simple fact that the further north you go the cheaper stuff is. Head down south and it gets alot more expensive just like house prices.

Also if its clean, straight, unmolested and unthrashed then whats wrong with that? if it was rusty and shonky it would need welding & bodywork which would cost £££

If you can show you have the money and he doesnt want to put it through the test then leave it unless your sure it will pass. It is true though to get a bargain you have to be in the right place at the right time ;)

You having a laugh?!

what year is it?

would have thought if its a 1.3 Genesis it will be 5 speed

If its a 1.3 it more than likely is five speed, if its a 1 litre its more likely to be four speed

5 speed gearboxes were an optional extra on all mk3's except GT/G40 models.

I think thats the biggest load of bullshit I've seen on here in a while

I dont think it makes a difference where the car is on the price.

I've a mate that bought his GT from down south, it must have been a pretty good price for it to have A been worth buying and B to have driven god knows how far to collect it.

This is over priced, no matter what part of the country you are from.

Proof

As long as used cars have been on sale in the UK, it has been cheaper to buy them up north than down south.

Genesis models only ever came with 1.3 with 5 speeds or 1.05 with 4. No other combination was offered.

5 speed boxes were only ever an option on CLs.

With regards to the original post: nice car, especially as there is minimal evidence of parking rash. At the end of the day, you make your money and therefore takes your choice!
