sooo iv finished work at 5am leaving oxford street and approaching hyde park corner when i noticed a meat wagon few cars back. i turned down my sounds and they came next to me at the lights on my drivers side.

i had my window open for a lil fresh air as id been at work all night in a building - i was driving with my track suit top on which comes with a hood and i was wearing the hood at the time the feds came next to me....

...the officer on my side scoped his eyes over my car a few times while the driver reved the engine and came closer to me...

...the passenger officer then went to ask me how i was and what my reason was for driving with my hood on to which i kindly replied - I'm COLD!

when i pulled my hood down he went over my car with his eyes and he noticed i wasnt a young lad and they soon drove off.

sooo..was he just being a wa**er or have these guys got something against people wearing hoods...

i must say i have noticed that the feds look at you more with a hood on then off!!

I was on my way to Holborn to collect my post on wednesday evening wearing a black hoody, got stopped and questioned where i was going where i'd been etc etc by armed police in kings cross tube station!

tbh i'd rather they stopped and checked than let some dude with a molotov cocktail go wandering around again!

for fucks sake, it's not like they've thrown him in a dungeon for 200 years! They just checked him out to make sure he wasn't up to no good. He was driving about at 5am with tunes on, a hood on in London at a time when there have been riots going on and people using hoods to hide their faces while looting. Not exactly unjustified is it!?!?

He has the right to wear what he likes - but if it looks suspicious (pretty much anything with a hoodie up does these days - this shouldn't be a surprise) then the police are doing the job we pay them to do if they just put a feeler out to see his reaction. They obviously realised quite quickly it was a bloke in a top and moved on. I'm glad they are being this diligent.

The innocent until proven guilty thing is nothing to do with this - its not like they dragged him to a cell and tried to associate him with some recent crimes.

If I'm not doing anything wrong but want to have my hood up, do you really think I need to be checked on in case I'm going to brake the law? Just because of what I wear.

it's not because of what you wear though is it. They aren't targeting people with hoods on they are targeting people who may be trying to incite violence of which there has been rather a lot of recently and a lot of the people doing it have been using hoods and scarves to hide their faces.

This is exactly what the police are there for. They stopped someone who looked suspicious, checked him out, decided he was OK and let him on his way to do whatever he wanted with his hood.

I drive an old van about at night all over the country for my job and probably get pulled 3-4 times a year for a check, they never say it, but its because of the way the van looks. I'm doing my job, they're doing theirs. Quick chat and pass the attitude test and all's rosy.

doesn't matter that its a hoodie, try going around at midnight with a stocking over yer head or maybe a cardboard box.... they have to ask- why is that person covering their face?

I think that alot of people, if not everybody judges people in stereotypes.

For example, if a big chav came storming towards you, looking you in the face you would think. Fuck sake this chav is gonna start on me......

He looks like the sort of person who was gonna cause trouble and you thought that, but he was actually a nice guy helping you out.

By wearing a hoody you fit into a stereotype of a young lad who likes to create trouble. I also wear hoodies (and sometimes forget to put the hood down as I get in the car) and do not fit into the stereotype but you rarely have a stereotpe relating to 'nice' people.

At the end of the day the Police are here to attempt to keep order and withhold the law. If you have nothing to hide then it should not bother you if they want to stop and have a chat.

I would rather be stopped once a week (although I have never been stopped) and checked out rather than them never checking anyone out and some douche bags nicking my car to get away with it.

That depended on if you are traveling through an area ravaged by people wearing hoodies. Don't blame the police for this, its all these bellends running around in hoodies burning innocent peoples house to the ground that have now made it impossible to walk around in a hoodie without people thinking your a criminal.

It's this kind of liberal bullshit that has got this country into such a mess, criminals human rights put before victims, kids allowed to act how they like with no fear of discipline because that's against the law. The police have the power to stop any vehicle on the road if they want to. You don't need to have committed an offence, they don't need a reason to pull you, they just can. You may have given them more reason to pull you by wearing a hoodie at 5am (do your heaters not work?!)

We got pulled a few years ago in Coventry just about to join the A46, it was December, my mate had just got a new car with a targa top so naturally we went out for a drive with the roof off at 2am.. (as you do)

Went past a parked up police car, he obviously clocked us and started following us for a while then pulled us over, my mate got breathalysed, hadn't been drinking whatsoever so passed fine and we were let on our way, they admitted they assumed we must've been absolutely wankered as it was fooking cold out like...

Initially it was a bit annoying, but in hindsight, I would've pulled us...

Back to the OP though, I have wondered in the past what the deal is driving with a hood up, assume there's nowt against it though

Silly question - if you're in a warm car, why would you need to wear a hood??

(One of the reasons why people stopped wearing hats in the 20th Century is the fact your head doesn't get cold in a car)

I'm sure a hood would make driving more difficult, it might hinder your peripheral vision.
