Okay so my saloon is lowered 70mm and its ripping the edges off all my tyres...if i went 175/55/R14 would that stop it?

Can get pictures if needed, just abit unsure as if i alter the width will that give it stretch?

Or do i need to downsize both that and the aspect ratio??

It's only skimming the very top outer edge of the tyre off so i presumed 175 would pull it inwards....

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Oh and it's 185/55/R14 tyres on some bbs ra's (the golf ones i think as they're 14 inch) if that helps

Roll arches? Or go 175 or even 165. You don't need to reduce the aspect ratio, as it's a percentage of the width. 55% of 185 is therefore less than 55% of 175. Stretch on a 6" rim would need to be 155 or 145, which you don't need as it's used to keep the tread within the arch

Did this in my 6n...though the 175 tyres are fecking expensive, so I went to 165/55/14's

I'm trying to keep it looking oem so don't want to roll the arches because i have the plastic trim on! And i'm not after stretch really but i will have a look at some 165s then, have to find that website that has all the pics of tyre sizes!

Swapped mine on my coupe to 165/60x14, stopped all the tyre noises I was getting whilst driving, and felt generally better to drive (although can't corner in the dry as quick). The 165/60 profile gives a rolling diameter of 7mm over a standard 155/70x13, so doesn't have a noticeable impact on the speedo

195/40s or 45s. they are both fine on mine, down 60/40.

185/55 on the front and rear scrub like mad and catch on very small bumps (ie gen motorway driving)

Surely the 195's would be worse as they are wider though? my new car will be going down about 80 and therefore don't want them to scrub heh and don't really want that much arch gap

nope, totally standard.

was down 75/60 now 60/40 on 7J rims (ET25), running 195/45/14s. no arch work. scrubs on the rear only when i have passengers and a bootful of stuff

If your running the G40 in the loon you really don't want anything less that a 185 section tyre.

I'd suggest the Yoko A539 185/50/14, although getting them is getting harder and harder.

Or go for a 195/40/14, reduce the rolling radius to stop the scrubbing and you gain contact surface area.

Cheers for that mate, why i wasn't wanting any stretch on a 6.5j! Off to get some pre worns put on as testers of each size to see which fits. But my choice of either yokos, falkens or toyos for the new tyres. Saying that the proxies didnt last long on my old g40 :/ What do you have on your fronts? the yokos?
