Just a heads up on these brakes.. I've had some brembo's fitted to my 6n and to say fitment is a nightmare is an understatement

Judging by the pics you have, the brackets you have bought fit the ibiza brembos which has the same fitment as the 6n so should bolt to your car fine

not sure if your calipers are the same as the ibiza ones tho

now when you fit the discs, you cant use the ibiza 305mmx28mm (which were desinged to work with the brembos) as the disc will hit your ball joint

it is aparently not safe to use g60 280x22mm discs due to their thickness.. or lack of

and there arent any other off the shelf 4x100 discs you can use as far as I'm aware

I've had a company make some 2 piece discs made with the same dimensions as the ibiza discs, but with some more offset to clear the balljoints

at which point my caliper was in the wrong location so i had my brackets remade to space out the caliper

which is a bad idea coz its hard enough to find wheels to clear the brembos and spacing them further makes this even more difficult

using the ibiza discs will mean u need 16's minimum and the wheels will need to be of a certain spoke design or heavily spaced

so in all fairness it may be better to go for some 4 pot willwodds which can be used with g60 discs with which u can run 15's i believe... not 100% sure on that tho

but i really wanted brembos on my car which is why i went through the nightmare of making it fit

u may find an easier way of making it fit.... but i couldnt find another solution

nah no good... i had a right ballache with my first set of wilwoods

had to send them back a couple of times to get things right, and now its a right pain to find some wheels that'll fit -_-

I dont think those ball joint extenders will work tbh

I went with hispec brakes although i think AP brakes will do the same thing but a bit more expensive

Think it was £120 per bespoke centre bell.. you will need two of these.. these never need replacing

the actual disc is about £75-100 per disc and you can pick how big u want the disc

the brackets were 120ish for the pair

and the bolts to connect the disc to the centre bell was about £20 i think... they are strech bolts and need replacing at every disc change

the above prices are + VAT... they wouldnt budge on their prices, not even for cash

also you aparently get some kind of better braking performance with it being a 2-piece disc... not sure why tho

so to get the setup working cost me £550ish + the cost of the calipers which i got fairly cheap

something to keep in mind is that servicing the brakes (2 rotors + bolts) will be around £260

I've attached a pic of the two different brackets... you can see the hole i had moved to to push the caliper out

if u decide to go with a smaller disc you will need to move the caliper closer to the centre of the hub to ensure better claping on the disc which would mean the other two holes (the two you cant see in the pic) need moving... if that doesnt make sense i can get u another pic which makes that easier to understand

if u have the capability.. or know someone else who does... then you can buy the plain bells relatively cheaply and do the work yourself (£100 for the pair i think)

Okay i may have to go down that route, The calipers, adapters and brake hoses already stand me at £580 so another £500 would be a joke ha. I emailed the company who i got the adapters off and they told me to use mk2 golf hubs and ball joints and i won't have a problem with the 305mm discs. Not entirely sure though.

but theres a chance u buy more stuff and it doesnt work and you'll be even more out of pocket

i asked around on clublupo and i got one answer about someones setup

they spaced their disc using brake shims... deffo didnt sound safe

if u want an easy install speak to josh about his willwood setup

and sell your parts to someone with a golf/ibiza/corrado as the fitment will be perfect for them

if not be prepared to dig deep into your pockets

Okay sorry for all the questions but I'm still trying to get my head round this ha, is it the thickness (28mm) thats the main problem with hitting the ball joint then and not the length (305mm)?? or is it infact the offset of the ibiza disc? I just can't get my head around why it will fit the mk2 golf perfect but not the polo lol.

no1naz says sell them to a golf owner then surely if you can somehow fit mk2 golf hub setup surely it should then work as it would on the golfs? therefore much cheaper and happy days

this is what happens when you fit the ibiza 305mm disc

now this is what the bracket looks like on the car.. now if u refer to my previous pic of the two brackets, you'll understand how my new bracket has shifted the caliper further out

i dont have any more pics of the 305mm ibiza disc but if u look at my brake disc... the outer rotor (braking surface) is sitting a few mm's behind the centre mounting bell

whereas on the ibiza, the outer part of the disc sits a further 10mm into the car (which is what i meant by offset)

the reason why g60's arent safe is because there 6mm thinner so when your discs and pads wear away, there is that chance that the pads will be forced out too far

this is because there built for thicker discs

come to think of it i think i remember comparing the ibiza discs with the standard 6n2 gti discs and I'm pretty sure the ibiza ones sat a fair bit deeper into the car

not 100% sure tho... it was a while ago

i dont know why they seem to work on a mk2 golf, mk3 ibiza but not a 6n polo

all i know it didnt work on my car

i think josh originally had a willwood setup sent to him that was built for a mk2 golf and that hit his ball joint too, might be worth checking his build thread

Okay mate, i really do appreciate all the pics and info. I can see now why the ball joint extender wouldn't work. I think i'm going to have to do a lot more research before i commit to buying some discs then lol. Ill have a look at josh's thread now see if i can find anything to further my knowledge on the brakes ha.

yeah the 305mm discs are hard to come by

only ones i could really find were on ebay for about £100

but if you are not in any rush then yeah research into it

i had a time restraint on me at the time so i just had everything made custom

but the caliper now sticks out a fair bit

so even with prosche wheels and adapters (25mm spacing i think) the wheels still dont fit so I've had them spaced a further 10mm to make them fit

i may have over-spaced the caliper when i had the setup made but i didnt want to under-space it and repay to have everything made again

so be careful before you go down the same route as me

Haha, okay i'm not in a rush to get it finished so ill do some more research ha. Ye I've seen the discs on ebay for £99.99 drilled and grooved. I'm wanting to get it finished for the spring gti fest so wish me luck lol

If I were you I would get hold of some cheap mk2 golf hubs and try them mate I'm sure you can pick them up cheap enough from eBay or go scrapyard hunting

Aha cheers mate, so the on the mk2 golfs the ball joint goes into the hub at 12 o clock instead of 10 o clock thereby not interfering with the disc? Will a mk2 golf hub bolt straight onto my 1998 polo do you know?

I just checked some pictures out of the 2 and they look identical apart from the angle in which the ball joint bolts up so i ordered a set off ebay for £38 posted. If they don't fit ill just have to sell them on again ha. Cheers for all your help pete i appreciate it.

Will mean your track will be slightly wider now only by about 10-15mm but nothing bad so will have to alter the track ends abit to suit
