From a polo to a 106 youl notice the difference, i felt more secure in my mk3 than the 106 gti i got rid of it for The handling isnt all its cracked up to be either, but its each to their own - i know people that would hate driving a polo in the same way i disliked the 106

In my experience, diesels are cheaper to insure than more petrol equivelents.

I had a 1.9 TDI 110 Seat Leon. Great car did a few bits and bobs to it and the thing flew. 50+mpg FTW aswell!

As honestly as I tried to do the job properly, there wasn't an ounce of solid metal remaining on it. I tried my best to cut and sand away all the rust back to solid metal, but I was just sanding and sanding further and further that if I'd have gone any longer I would have to build a whole fucking chassis from scratch.

People need to remove their heads from the volkswagen polo arse. theres plenty cheaper, more fun, faster, better handling, less prone to rust non vag options for sale instead of a 6n.

It's all well saying this and most people would turn there nose up, Your on a POLO forum what on earth do you expect. People on here love polo's to death over most cars just because of the joys of it.

My sister does this band practise thing at a local school and one of the parents that picks kids up has a red 'Torslanda' edition of a 240. It's huge and has awesome little BBS wheels. Pretty sure cars don't get more 80's than that beast.

Are you sure you can insure a VTS cheaper than a 1.0L 6n?

Possibly a VTR but a VTS is a whole different ball game when it comes to insurance.

Its actually on a par with the Mk3 G40...have you looked into that?

Personally if I had to make this choice I'd probably go for a Saxo VTR for a few reasons:

Firstly there are so many about its easy to shop around and find a decent one

They shouldn't suffer with rot...they are like 99% plastic, only neglected ones suffer serious rot

The VTR is really cheap to insure compared to pretty much anything

The 1.6 8v engine is completely bullet proof, will take unbelieveable amounts of abuse and keep going

The handling characteristics on them and just superb fun

The build quality isn't as bad as its made out, its no german car but the dash wont exactly fall on your lap

Put all that together and you do have a good fun little car.

But they do lack a quality feel which you seem to get on a good VW.

Funny enough only a week ago whilst i was hoovering out my 6n in a clean park a guy owning a 2nd hand car sales place opposite came over to chat to a couple of us and he asked me if i was ever looking to sell mine that i come to him as he had seen the car a number of times ,out of curiosity i asked what he would be willing to part exchange if i was thinking of selling and the first one he mentioned was a VTR that had been on his forecourt for a few weeks.

I had never sat in a saxo so i was curious but I'm afraid it didn't ring my bell with the build quality in fact it reminded me alot of my old Pug 205 GTI basically a sweet tin with an engine and the plasics were cheap but it was the underneath that bothered me the most with a fair bit of rust by the sills etc and that was on an early 02 model so i declined the offer .

You know I love my polo, and I love many other polos but i'm not a huge fan of anything but the 6n2, which I drive. I use this forum to meet likeminded people, who have a love for their car and to buy and sell parts. If I owned a saxo I would probably be on a saxo forum.

At the end of the day there are many other cars out there which people love and it's their own choice. I do love VW's and would say that if I were to move away from the polo scene I would buy a corrado or golf as I know of the build quality and available parts.

I don't think I would rush out and buy a saxo VTR/VTS as other family members have owned them in the past and had problems. But then all cars have problems, like my engine mount going (apparantly a common problem) along with the common fault of the lower wishbones working loose (on 6n2's).

It seems strange that a 1L 6n is harder to insure compared to a VTS. Has your 6n got lots of delclared mods compared qith quotes your getting for the VTS??

If I were to move away from VW's though I would definitely buy a civic ek. In my opinion they are very nice looking cars with great build quality.

Quality of all small cars of the polo 6N era for polo 6N money all seem a little bit shonky. You rarely see a 6N which isn't rocking some pretty tasty brown scabs these days.

I drove a 106 gti with a few suspension tweeks (not just slammed on its hole) and it was one of the most fun cars i have driven. They are basically a saxo VTS but they look better. Very simple dash and interior which is far better than the ugly dash and seats available in the 6N models.

I wouldn't get another 6N unless it was a standard, well maintained, open air valver with good bodywork. I have more chance riding a unicorn these days though.

Buy the best, most looked after car you can afford. Frequent trips to the garage can quickly make you fall out of love with a car.

I got quoted 1.8K on a very heavily modified 205 GT (1.4) when I was 19 and that with accident history. If your being quoted 4K for a 1.0l then theres something very wrong somewhere!
