The Arrow Grey Polo Coupé

Featured Replies

Bought this off of VW-JW91 a couple of months ago with a few mods already done to it (his thread), but the paint was quite bad and non-existant in places so my dad called in a favor with a good friend who owns a body shop to paint it at a knock down price in Arrow Grey as found on the mk1 Audi TT so a month ago they picked it up a day or two before i went on holiday for a couple of weeks and while i was away they sent me these pics:

I then got back from my hols and it wasn't finished yet as they had higher priority jobs to do which didn't matter as i hadn't found an apprenticeship since finishing college so i couldn't pay for insurance anyway. Fortunately i found a job last week and i start next Monday :) so i got insured last week, as the car could come back any day, for £1250 with mods declared with admiral, not bad for a first time driver ;)

Anywho i got it back yesterday, woop woop! Let the pictures commence!

As i got it:

What needed putting on/in:

IMAG0241.jpg

A few mins into the rebuild it started raining, waaah!

The result:

The paint has got pearl effect in it so in direct sunlight it shines a silvery blue colour and normally its a grey similar to primer, i love it!

All mods so far:

- grey carpet

- grey gt interior

- gt clocks

- panasonic head unit with vibe 6x9's in the shelf and some cheapo 4" speakers in the dash + roof aerial

- new front bumper

- debadged grill

- pressed uk legal plates

- de bump stripped

- aerial hole on passenger wing smoothed

- aero front wipers

- zenon bulbs

- clear front indicators

- late spec rear lights

- debadged polo on rear and holes smoothed

- lowered 70mm

- 6n steels

- a whopping big exhaust that hangs badly which i am changing soon!

- a shed load of stickers on the boot

- smoked side repeaters

- de-wipered with colour coded bung

Very Nice ! cannot tell this was mine anymore !!! :) SPEC!

You talk of it being lowered, you have stickers on it pointing out it's lowered.

Yet you've parked it on a kerb for your shots and it still doesn't look very low.

I think it can go lower. Angle grinder time.

its not THAT low at the moment no, its about 4 or 5 inches from the ground at the lowest points, the exhaust whats on hits bumps as it is, the tyres on these 13's are too big but i'm getting new wheels anyway and i was parked on the kerb because i doing something and cars were coming up and down the road, and it is low compared to standard cars hahaha but i am hopefully getting 90mm springs or at least 80mm

Nice, The stickers and the irony of them ruin it for me though.

Id keep the same height and invest in different size wheels and tyres :)

Well is it lowered? yes and is it lowered more than the average 60mm? yes so there. These wheels were never my choice as they were the ones i bought the car on because the previous owner wanted to keep his ra's, i start my job monday and i will get some different wheels in the next couple of weeks which will make a big difference.

i like how no-one has commented on the respray, this is the only mk3 in this colour, maybe the only polo ever in this colour, damn maybe the only VW in this colour! but just that my standard steels don't make it low  the stickers just say lower and lowered not slammed or anything

The colour doesnt do anything for me at the moment, but i'm sure it will look spot on when you've got some decent wheels on there. Personally i would go for some BBS type wheels, or something with abit of dish, maybe have a colour contrast with the bodywork to brighten it up a little, looks a bit dull at the moment.

Don't really understand why everyones getting at you about the stickers, you say it lowered (which it is), so why can't you have a few stickers humouring that? :?

With the exhaust swapped for something a little more relevant and some decent wheels it should look sick...

Get some orange indies on her aswell 8-)

Nice colour. I'd remove the stickers and get the bumpers half coded.

GT Arch & Sill trims, black numberplate vinyl and some decent fitting wheels and it'll look even better.

Oh, and a black VW badged grille.

Just my input!

nice and simple! very good :D

Looks good. Couple of choice stickers is ok but i'd remove some of them. Rest of it i like. Funny how pattern front bumpers bow upwards in the middle like that. Golf steels (especailly the ones that look like G60 steels) look awesome on a mk3 but i would keep them silver. I had some on one of mine:

i dont really like flat faced wheels so bbs are out of the question, i was thinking gloss black 7j alleycats or something, i like the grey and black combo, i know it look will look a bit boring but i'm not a fan of shouty colours

i'm keeping the stickers! for now at least, i'm only 19 so when i'm a bit more grown up i will take them off probably, was thinking cc'd bumpers too but the rear bumper isn't worth the effort as its past its best really, and i haven't got the wheels to justify arches yet hahaha

nice and simple! very good :D

cheers! 8-)

i'm not a fan of the silver and grey combo myself, but i am interested in 14's but i dread buying tyres and then it won't be as low as on 13's really :?

went to High Peaks Low Dubs yesterday and managed to bag a couple of matching door pins (had only one on for a while), and a boss for a fiver as this last week this arrived Mountney Steering Wheel i also picked up an airbox that wasn't drilled and had all the pipes on it too from pettsy, good show all in all and while i was there my dad was picking up the exhaust i wanted from matlock, thanks to dave432, win!

i also had it checked up saturday morning to see why it had such poor mpg, it turned out that the ht leads and distributer were near enough dead! so i had them replaced, my mate VW-JW91 also came along and had his gt checked up which needed a new rotor arm as it turned out

took a couple of snaps as well while it was sunny (i know some of you wanted pics of it on the gorund and not a kerb  ) as the paint looks very silver with a blue tinge to it in bright light too

good light:

IMAG0255.jpg

IMAG0256.jpg

IMAG0257.jpg

less light so looks more primer grey:

cheers! yours was like a foot lower though hahahaha

i've just started my first job today so wheels will be bought in the not so distant future :-D

i like the pov spec look of the wheels. just get an extra inch or 2 of lip banded into them!

This looked good yesterday to be honest.

As most though, i dont like the stickers.

Needs more lows and wheels.

Love it, Stickers look sweet!

I had a quick look around it on sunday, I love the colour man really like it. That white GT was uber clean too.

fav colour on polo's!! had a mk2 square sprayed the same colour i loved it!

cant believe people are still telling others what to do with their cars haha!

if it was cheaper to band them i would but it would mean new tyres and sending them off to be done, which is too much compared to say a set of cheap 13x7's, and i would want them black aswell so not much point really

UPDATE: first update is that a week ago long story short one of my sidewalls got cut on a kerb, so i had to either get a new tyre or new wheels, the 6n steels weren't really worth a new tyre so new wheels in the form of a set of black/rust 5.5j (i've gained a whole j!) lupo steels with some huge tyres on that i got off a mate who took them off his lupo the second he bought it  anyway they are put me ons and look like this (i also gave it its first propper wash after its respray):

IMAG0278.jpg

IMAG0280.jpg

probably going spray them gloss black quickly sometime to tidy them up

and finally the paint can has gone!

IMAG0276.jpg

IMAG0277.jpg

for a much more subtle powerflow cat-back that i bought for the sum of £25 of here, its sounds a tad better as it only has one silencer but i'm probably going to remove the cat sometime or even stretch to a stainless 4-2-1 manifold at some point

also unintentional update:

IMAG0279.jpg

must have lost the lens last night on the brilliant roads round here

got my side repeaters replaced, i sent it to my dads friends garage so that the cutting out issue could be sorted which means getting a lift off dad to work everyday :S so its had its distributor replaced, didn't fix it, and now the coil has been replaced too which i hope has fixed it but i'll see, but it passed its mot while it was there :)

i've also bought some wheels in the 13x6 flavour which isn't epically wide but i like these wheels more than i like dish ;) getting them next week so will update then

replaced the coil and it seems to be good now :)

first proper update!

last wednesday these arrived:

IMAG0294.jpg

whats wrong with this picture? yes they lost one of them somewhere along the courier delivery line but it turned up the day after

i started the clean up as they had grime/overspray/wheel weights falling off them to get ready for when the necessary bolts and things turned up and used a bit of the old autosol

before and after of overspray removal:

IMAG0298.jpg

i then had them balanced and put two 155/65/13 tyres from the old 6n steels i had lying around on the front as two of the 165/65/13 tyres were past it

the backs of them all looked like basically:

IMAG0304.jpg

so let the ghetto home refurb commence!:

IMAG0303.jpg

things arrived:

IMAG0305.jpg

got them fitted:

IMAG0310.jpg

IMAG0313.jpg

IMAG0312.jpg

IMAG0311.jpg

IMAG0315.jpg

very happy with how they look/sit (pics make them look worse as per) but hopefully i can replace the tyres at some point for 165/55/13's or something and maybe cheekily lower it a bit more to suit

the wheels look awesome!

liking where this is going, but i think it would look 100 times better with the plastic arch kit

New shoes makes such a difference man, very nice though a smaller profile needs to be done.
