Nice whip mate! What's it like driving with that mountney wheel with it being so small?

Cheers! It's not as nice as your old whiten that you scrapped  and the mountney is fine to drive with actually, it is only an 1" or so smaller than the original though

I will put pics of the lamin-x on later

loving the lamin-x man. What shade did you go for?

  • Author

The darkest they did, I have also got the subtle tint for rears but I'm not sure I want to do them now and I nave now fitted new pedal rubbers including an accelerator pedal rubber that these polos never had

update time, not that anyones's bothered as its not a 150bhp beast, the lowest, the widest nor do i have people who just generally chat about anything in my build thread (not naming any names :p ) but i've fitted some polished bonnet struts and some black 6n mats what i got for christmas but i dont have pics of the mats they are just black mats

pics:

and some random pics:

yeah it still needs lowering  but i'm planning on lowering it another 10 or 20mm and ideally a change of wheels too as they are only 6j they need to be spaced a bit, but this then means the edge of the tyre is near the arch and scrubs with passengers, so i need wider wheels so i can get a bit of stretch on the go

Edited by JordonVW

yes liking this mate, those bonnet struts are nice too i was thinking about getting some.

if you dont mind me asking where did you get them from?

  • Author

cheers mayney :) nah i dont mind at all i got them from ebay here

i managed to sort the puddle that had developed over the last week in the passenger footwell today, i took the door card off to find this:

IMG_20120102_153532.jpg

IMG_20120102_153546.jpg

it was happening because when i had it resprayed the bodyshop must have removed the plastic sheeting that was on the door so i made one up out of some old clear sheeting and taped it on which should hopefully work

:ninja: Who is that GT In the background looks slick? :ninja:

cheers mate gunna have to get myself some of these, you going the rr day at the end of jan?

i dont know but it looks like it could do with lowering

yeah may aswell get them only £20 and they are pretty handy and nah i dont think so I'm not that interested in bhp figures at the moment but I'm going to the polo show and i need to get it running properly first! its coil died we think last night as i was getting in the car to leave a petrol station just after leaving work

so i had to participate in the tow of shame back to my grandparets house nearby, the coil was only 4 months old from gsf so I've got another one on the way today from gsf again to see if it works and i may get a different coil from vw if it is the coil as I'm sure the gsf one should last longer than that but id only get the vw one as a spare in case the gsf one doesnt hold up again

first things first, i fitted the new coil and it fired first time and i think i fixed the water leak aswell

i've bought some things too including; polished door handle inserts, wolfsburg chrome window winders (will make more sense with the new interior plans :ninja: ), i've got some mk2 polo door cards sitting around in the garage as i need all the mk2 trim bits for it and i am having trouble finding someone selling them (pm if you have or know someone who has some)

today i fitted these sidelight bulbs which took a week or so to get here from hong kong but they are worth it to get rid of the old yellow dim ones

IMG_20120117_182457.jpg

left is old sidelight, right is new, much better :)

IMG_20120117_182532.jpg

and on dipped beam you can still see a bit of difference

i've also bought some new wheels last week 8-) but the seller is having bank troubles and he cant yet move the money from paypal to his bank but he says i will have them by next week, anyone know any good arch rolling companies? :ninja:

I've only just got the engine reliable! Its had running issues for literally the entire time I've owned, 2/3's of the the electronic/electrics in the engine bay are new so now it is finally running at 100% i can start on it yes, i dont know where to start though :S i mean the bay is still the old dark grey and the engine is completely standard except a cat back exhaust and a k&n panel filter, really i should have the bay sprayed but since its a daily i cant take it off the road, then id want a full length rain tray cover with a small washer bottle under it, a nice rocker cover, the engine cleaning up and a gt cam and gearbox.

Can you tell why I've left it as it is now  half those things cant be done :(

taken delivery of some wheels today but first a little pic of my broken mirror (adjuster cable snapped) which also shows how the rear 6j revo sit  (with the aid of the 15mm spacer), not bad i think

IMG_20120126_122919.jpg

and now the new wheels:

IMG_20120128_134514.jpg

any guesses as to what they are?

Wellers? Or other banded steels?

I like them :)

On a side note, looks like they're gonna make your car 14.76 mm higher than your old wheels, FS, your car's so high.

haha

how do you know they are steelies? could be alloy....

and yeah hahaha i see what you did there :smirk: but it will reduce the rolling radius even more so its gonna even lower and then I'm going to lower it another 20mm or so too, coilovers may be a good idea since my boot is full of work stuff all the time and i need stiff suspension!

I'm guessing steels because the lip is painted white.

Usually steels get painted while alloys get polished.

What are they?

  • Author

yeah they are banded steels  cba with messing around, no one is bothered anyway!

they are banded 6n steels that are powdercoated white but its coming off and cracking etc... which doesnt matter as they are going black anyway, fronts are 7.5j with 165/55/13s and rears are 8.5j with 175/50/13s, I'm yet to confirm these figures but I'm not that bothered anyway as I've seen a pic of them fitted to a coupe and with arch rolling they fit well

IMG_20120128_134854.jpg

IMG_20120128_134902.jpg

8.5j rear wheel on left and original 5j 6n steel on right 8-)

IMG_20120128_134714.jpg

IMG_20120128_134737.jpg

so now the arches need addressing and I'm hoping the 6 month old paint isnt going to crack or something, I'm going to get a professional to do it or if someone off here is any good at it pm me, the rear tyres need changing though, not sure if ill get 175/50s again or something slightly different, suggestions?

also would mk1 golf chrome centres caps slot straight on these steels? like so: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a220/chi...lchrometrim.jpg

i reckon black lips with battleship grey centres rather than all black as you might miss the dish if you know what i mean?

Yes mate 8-) Liking the way this is going

  • Author

WTF!!! comments?!?!? once youve got width it seems you get comments, i see how it is

i reckon black lips with battleship grey centres rather than all black as you might miss the dish if you know what i mean?

was thinking about having the dish a different colour and i get what you mean, being all black they wont seem as dishy but the difference in greys would annoy me too much  and i dont want the centres to be body coloured really, could do just the faces black i suppose but there no white on the rest of the car and the white paint is poor

Yes mate 8-) Liking the way this is going

cheers :-D what were the widths of your bandeds on your old whiten? loved that thing

Nah! I commented at the top of this page admiring this! :-D

They were 8 and 7.5, maybe a little wide up front but perfect out back

This pic shows the poke of the 7.5's if youre interested:
