working on your polo

Featured Replies

with a gay little round plastic thing, I know the pain.

Were not asking what you get up to in your spare time, i think you should keep that to yourself...

But anyway,

I feel everyones pain! I usualy get really pissed off and throw tools around instead though:)

Changing an alternator belt on an afh in a mk2 thats using a multi rib belt instead is just a nightmare!

A tip for your brake shoes, I couldn't find my spring puller so I assembled the shoes, springs and linkages off the car, hooked up the handbrake cable, got one side in the bottom bracket and cylinder, placed the other side on the cylinder and then used an adjustable splanner to lever the last shoe into the bottom bracket.

If someone posts a pic of the shoes I'll edit it to show what I mean, easiest way I've found to do it.

Using a scissor jack with no handle to change my wheels. Twas an utter nice person.

How?!?

had to put a screwdriver through the handle hole and spin! its the shitty one from 90s toyotas.

Its just very fiddley with all the springs. I took a photo of how they was before to help with the reassembley lol

When I did my rear brakes 18 months ago, as I pulled both the drums off, the brake lining hold down pins snapped and the linings, springs and pistons all fell out in a heap!! so I had no idea how they went back together and the Haynes was'nt that helpfull either :-( it ended up like an episode of CSI trying to match up the scratch marks on the brake shoes with the springs. Disc brakes are so simple, unbolt the cailper pop the pads out push the piston back, plenty of copaslip, pads in caliper back on job done :-)

Fitting my Wilwood 4 pots resulted in my smashing my indicators with a hammer in anger... lol,

Couldn't get the carrier bolts off even with a 2 foot bar, so decided to take the full hub assembly off the car and replace with a spare I had with a new bearing in it anyways, so it made sense.

Then one of the three bolts on the bottom ball joints was an utter slag! the captive nut sheared off, so had to chisel that off! took me an hour to sort that mess out. Track rod ends were being a nightmare... brake lines sheared when I tried to undo them from the flexi's... cut a long story short, after doing the first side and it being a nightmare, I bought this.

Fuck you Polo! I win :)

interesting how these are mainly brake system issues!

they're beasts them snapon guns. How much was it out of curiosity?

£450 will get u one :)

Thought they were about that. my boss had one, every time i asked it was a different price though! ill get trawling ebay.

Trying to adjust your back box and end up buying a new full system, rubbers and clamps and spending a day trying to make it line up without scraping the floor   B-shaw is right, difficult jobs go smoothly, it seems the simple stuff takes all day!

I bought this.

8-)

We've got a 400Nm Dewalt mains one... I haven't come across a bolt it can't undo yet

I bought an RAC branded one for around 30 quid. Clips onto a car battery.

Not too terrible tbh, I had to undo a tie rod on a shogun that was 20 years old and had been offroaded from new. Was on the bolt for about 15 mins, smoke pouring off the motor but eventually got it done.

I bet the snap on would have done it in seconds but it's a bit pricey for my liking.

Had success today, apart from I cut a nice slice in my finger, and I broke a new bearing after getting a paddy on lol

Don't you just love car's...
