I have a polo 9n, 03 plate 1.2, AWY engine code.

I was wondering if you guys had any tips from your experiences.

How many bolts are securing it for example?

I've successfully cleaned my mk4 polo and mk4 golf throttle body but need to know any specifics.

Does the throttle body adjust automatically or do I need to get it plugged in afterward?

hey buddy,

did mine a while ago, mines a bme engine though.

i remobed the engine cover/ airbox and there was 4 allen bolts securing it onto the manifold and iirc two connectors.

just remove everything and make sure nothing falls into the manifold.

its a good idea while your in there to clean out the egr pipe work and the inside bit of the manifold. to do the egr iirc you need a 19mm socket and 45 allen key. use the 19mm to undo the two bolts on the valve body itself, which is mounted to the exhaust manifold. then use the allen key to remove the pipe work from the inlet manifold. clean it out and also clean the area under the t/b.

after you have done everything, its advised to realign the throttle body using vag-com. follow this link HERE

Thanks for the help pal :-), I've just done the throttle body and there's a definite improvement.

I wonder if the EGR valve cleaning will solve this problem I'm having.

I've just had a service about 2 weeks ago, from a guy I trust and also a clutch change a week after.

In the service, ignitions coils were replaced, spark plugs were replaced, and oil filter and oil was replaced.

He then ran a diagnostic and found no codes.

I'm having a problem now when I drive along and the engine's warmed up after 20 minutes or so.

The car drives fine up until that point then the car has a noticeable, but subtle loss off power.

This can progressively get worse as the car goes along, but it is not undriveable, just very irritating.

No Engine Management light comes on and never has before the service.

The car is misfiring slightly but it is not coming up on the diagnostic as so.

Could the plugs be faulty? Plus why are there no codes coming up?

What do I clean the EGR valve with, just carb cleaner & elbow grease?

Just a quick additional question, is it possible I have a faulty o2 sensor, even if no fault codes come up?

As I'm driving, the only way to describe it is that the acceleration is quite uneven.

Idle is 850ish on start and quickly changes to around 600-700 after a bit of driving.

My brothers gf had a similar problem and it turned out to be the ht leads

I'm getting my pedal box checked and maybe replaced too as the clutch is creaking like mad - the guy will also check out the ignition leads for me.

It'll be interesting to find out the cause - I'll let you guys know the verdict for future reference.

Serves me right for not researching the mountain of problems you get with a 1.2 - 3 cylinder 9n :/
