MOT new rules for 2012

Featured Replies

I have just had my MOT done (passed :-) ) and I got a "heads up" warning about tinted lights (I have genuine Hella blue tinted rears, front and side indicators, TUV approved!) as from next summer any amount of tinting on any light will be an instant fail :x

So you saying standard 16v rears will suddenly become illegal?

Think he means aftermarket parts!

Its like the whole deal with HID's. HID's themselves arent being made illegal, but the retro fitting of them is!

So what if you put 16v rears on an 8v 6n then? Illegal?

Dont quote me on this, but technically its retro fitting so I'm sure that it would technically be illegal, but what tester is going to know that they arent just optional extras with the vehicle etc.

I think he was mainly refering to those who have sprayed there lights allmost black, he did infer that if I presented my car next year he would be inclined to let it go, as you can still see the colours and the 16v ones are not that tinted either.

Just another minefield to negotiate come MOT time
