Brentacre - wonderful people....

Featured Replies

....especially when you can surprise them with cheap quotes

Been phoning round (as can be seen with Chris Knott & Sky) for insurance.

Just called Brentacre to see if they could beat the cheapest for my polo after it has been lowered (looking to get some PhilJ coilovers for the time being) and Admiral have quoted me just over £500 *WIN WIN*

The guy on the phone at Brentacre was surprised and told me to bite their hand off :D so I know who I am going with

Was told exactly the same, they wanted to charge me £1500 with mods, yet Sky Insurance... £700

Brentacre insure like for like. Not all insurers do so. Check your policy.

Dont worry. I need to phone them up anyway. My renewal (10month policy) is more expensive than a new 12 month policy  so will iron all details out with them :)

Brentacre also cloned my credit card....

That's what they tell you until you have to claim. :-(

Brentacre also cloned my credit card....

Eh? Care to elaborate as i'm currently insured with them!?

Admiral have quoted me just over £500 *WIN WIN*

I was with Admiral for my first year, and have just moved over to Brentacre. Had a similar situation when I told them that my renewal would be about £600 and the guy from Brentacre said that that was really good and should go with it. But then I moved and changed job and Admiral added about £250 on top, which made Brentacre cheaper.

As a quick note, firstly as stated above Brentacre is like for like replacement and Admiral will only replace parts with standard ones. Also, if you're planning to mod your car a lot, Admiral charged me admin fees to make amendments while Brentacre don't for mods.

Final potential warning about Admiral and coilovers. When I was thinking about fitting coilovers I got a quote from Admiral and they were fine about it. But after I fitted them and tried to get the policy change confirmed, they sent me a email saying (and I quote from the email):

"Unfortunately we cannot cover coilovers due to the risk represented"

Took me several weeks of complaining (and careful driving...) until I bugged customer service enough to get a response that said:

"Our Underwriters are wary of covering modifications to the vehicle's suspension, particularly coilovers, but on refering the matter to my supervisor there is no obvious cause for concern in your case."

I don't know if this is some sort of mistake or one-off with Admiral, but I thought I'd mention it just in case, definitely confirm (preferably by email for the written evidence and to avoid Indian accents) that they will insure the modification.

Basically, the only place I used my card was with them, it was then used several times around their area, then to book a trip to Dublin, then to buy some Euros.

So aye, they cloned my credit card.

Rythax - thanks for the advice. I have got them put on straight from the off :) so no need to mess around changing the policy or anything. Cost me £50 less when I phoned them up and chatted to a lovely lady instead of starting a new policy online, which would of cost me just over £500 for the same thing

Just need to make sure they have cancelled the renewal now, though I will find out in a weeks time :)

I presume you told them so they can sack the person who did it?

My daily is currently insured with them but they've been a little on the uncompetetive side for a while. Us northerners are too dodgy to be allowed Sky Insurance and Chris Knott only allows +20bhp, fine for my daily but no good on the polo. I'm currently insured with PBIS on the polo. Brentacre said the same thing - bite their hand off - as they quoted me £600 for the polo when PBIS quoted £160! (classic policy) I'm going to try them again when my daily comes up for renewal apparently alot of aircooled dubbers use 'em. :)

I was with elephant, who basically are admiral...not allowed to lower more than 50mm...was pointless when having coilovers as most people tend to wind them down way past 50mm, including myself, so they were no good.

I rang loads of specialists, and brentacre were way cheaper than the rest (like £1000 cheaper)

My friends have also spoken to several specialists/brokers and nobody else can get near brentacre, all seem good to me.

Wouldnt know about credit card as I dont own one lol :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Must admit I have been with them for about 4 years now and they have always been very competitive.

Policy is that as long as i dont change the BHP, i can do anything to the car, so dont need any of those poxy "is this classed a mod??? :retard: " conversations....

mm i need to up my power limit due to engine conversions, think they quoted about £80 extra for 20hp more or something

No other company are coming close to the quote I've got from admiral this year and when they ring and tell they so surprised

Multicar policy

1995 1.6 GL Alloys and few other bits

1999 1.4 CL (standard)

1984 saloon 1.3 GT modified (declared)

All fully comp

Both me and the misses insured on them all (even through she won’t be driving the saloon) that's my baby

All in £1291

Other companies wanted £1500+ just for me on the 1.6
