9N Headunit Removal

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just bought a 9N and I didn't get any keys or tools to help me remove my head unit. Are there any how to's?

Do I need any special tools from VW?

there just simple blade type, only 1 issue with fitting an aftermarket stereo to the single din 9n is the engine warning light will come on if you dont have the proper adapter harness.

Edit: You also cant plug in any diagnostic units as it will short them out but once the harness is in place the light and diagnostic port issue will go away.

Ah, ok.

I intend to fit a Kenwood unit with the VW adapter block for the wiring. I take it that is what you mean by the adapter harness?

Hi there,

There should be two little slots on either side of the head unit next to the track skip button and tuner button. You can buy special VW keys that you slot in and release the headunit but I simply cut an old credit card into strips and slotted them in and then just give it a little pull and it will slide out.

Hope this is what you meant,

Jamie

Yep, thanks a lot. That's what I needed to know.

Cheers
