In any other situation that's all well and good, but with coppers the best way is just take it on the chin, otherwise they'll start getting picky with you and you'll be stood there all day.

Been pulled a few times myself and had some good and some arsey coppers.

Had one who said he wasn't a traffic guy but just had to fill a shift with a driver, kept saying how stupid the whole pressed plate laws were and refused to fine me even though the traffic officer ran round the car park giving fines out for all sorts.

That is correct, but it was also posted 3 years ago, from a document released in 1978!

It is very possible that the regulations have been updated since 2008, never mind 1978, so I wouldn't entirely trust them

It would be nice to find the most recent version of the Construstions and Use Act to find what latest bullshit/laws are in practice, but no one ever seems able to find a copy?!

It's the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986, and has been amended many, many times since 1986. The last amendment on the statute books is 2010. If there are any law students on here, you'll be able to find it all on Westlaw.

I'm sure they keep changing things so they can try and catch people out.

obviously not, do you really think the police are updated every day on every little law that is ammended..

No but they clearly have access to current laws otherwise how else would they keep up to date themselves? How else would they do their job?

if there's nothing wrong with the car or the driver or documents etc, there's no issues, it's delayed you for all of 10 mins and you're on your way again - at least that way, you KNOW there's nothing untoward with the car (i.e. Drug Markers from a previous owner etc)

My Polo got pulled at Global Gathering this year for a drug search, all going well till they told me i wasnt the registered keeper, i phoned my friend who was last registered and gave him so shit to send the thing off - 3yrs late

I'd imagine pulling out a piece of paper on legislation and correcting the copper, telling him he's wrong, is only going to wind him up, regardless of if he's being a dick or not. He'd have to be pretty sound to accept that he didn't know the law fully and leave it at that. Wouldn't be surprised if most would then proceed to go over the car looking for anything else that they could pull you up on!

In my experience acting like their bitch and stroking their ego always makes things easier.

Parking up in my local supermarket i get my drivers door blocked by a car, turns out its a unmarked Police car.

After much discussion about me appenrently not having any insurance or owning the car, after having it for a just under a year and showing him my vaild insurance documents which i then produced the next morning, I get my car impounded 25 miles away from where i live and get left miles away from my house.

I then have to take the next day off work to get my car, get a lift up there pay £150 to get it out (got a refund), send out documents to get my possible 6 points taken off for the "lack of insurance".

Then to top it all off i get a letter through the post saying i have to go to my local Police station to talk about a Section 59 caution for doing dounghnuts in a busy car park. It was 2am no one about and how the hell can you do doughnuts in a Polo.

Also during all this a large CCTV Police van turn up with 4 officers inside, a traffic Police car with two officers and the two current officers in the unmarked Police car just for me.

I had alot of respect for the Police before this, now i just think they are a waste of time.

Last bit promise... after all that i then get stopped a following 4 times in the next week, one of these times making me late for an I.T exam.
