Adam-'s 6n2.

Featured Replies

Okay, so I've been trolling this forum since I got the car, gradually building it up, but since I crashed it on some snow in the first year, I didn't really have many pictures.. Constant payouts for petrol and stuff meant I never really got to do much to my little Polo..

Model: Polo 6n2

Engine: 1.0 8v

Suspension: FK AK Coilovers

Brakes: GTi's. Soon to be 280's when I buy new pads and disks.

Wheels and Tyres: Lupo GTi Bathurst's. Yoko's.

Exterior Styling: GTi Splitter.

Interior Styling: Electric windows, cup holder, MK4 Golf Recaro's.

ICE and Security: Alpine Headunit, 400W RMS JBL amp, Rainbows, 8" JL sub.

My little Polo has done me really well. The obviously temp sensor and pedal box went. Rather than replacing the box, I got my trusty welder out and bodged it back together. It's held for another 8 months now, touch wood! :) I got her off my gran when I was 17, and it only had 17k on her. 2 years on, I've done 52k. :/ That's quite a lot of miles.

So, first year; she looked like this:

IMG_1222.jpg

IMG_1220.jpg

Then, I managed to hit a fence trying to learn how to handbrake turn! :( I blame my dad, he told me to get experience..

IMG_1167.jpg

IMG_1170.jpg

And repaired:

IMG_1184.jpg

Poor little Polo! :(

So, while rebuilding, the car I found had electric windows. I wanted, so I fitted..

IMG_1653-1.jpg

IMG_1656-1.jpg

IMG_1188.jpg

And fitted:

IMG_1662-1.jpg

Easy. :)

Then came the GTi brakes. Red is boring, so went for something a little more vibrant behind the gunmetal wheels:

IMG_1634.jpg

Pink! <3

Got the hubs powdercoated too:

IMG_1636.jpg

And then fitted:

IMG_1642.jpg

More snow came, this year, and the car turned into a snow plow:

IMG_1675-1.jpg

IMG_1674.jpg

Bought some Recaro's out of the MK4 Golf. No, they're not a straight swap, but they do fit. I didn't want to weld the seats, and since I'm not selling the car on, I just cut off the old bracket and welded on a new bracket.. Looked kinda like this..

IMG_1714-1.jpg

And bolted together:

IMG_1716-1.jpg

IMG_1715.jpg

IMG_1702.jpg

IMG_1827.jpg

The only other problem I've had was my gearstick selector disintegrated.

IMG_1683.jpg

IMG_1682.jpg

Obviously cause of my rapid aggressive gear changes! :p

I just got her back from getting re-sprayed at the weekend! For 200 quid, I can't really complain. Now looks like this:

IMG_1823.jpg

IMG_1822.jpg

IMG_1827.jpg

IMG_1824.jpg

IMG_1821.jpg

This is just the start! :) I've got my new AFH sitting in the garage; which is gonna go on carbs. Need to get the 280's sorted, then thinking about polybushing it.

Engine will probably go in next year, because insurance is a bit steep just now. I was thinking about the GTi, but it doesn't appeal, it can't be tuned as heavily, and isn't as fun!

Let me know your thoughts! :)

New update:

Ordered bearings, polybushes, new pads, 280 disks, and a lovely new set of Weitecs!

Turns out the bushes are the wrong ones, so the back axle is sitting really sad just now, waiting till Wednesday for the new ones! :/ Venom got it wrong and sent me the rear bushes for the estate one!

So I'll get some pictures up for people that don't know what coilies look like! ;)

amazing dude! looks so good.... love the colour too!

Thanks man! :)

The bushes have been sent back, now been told 10 days! Venom fucked up again, didn't send me another bush. So, tomorrow for that; and bearings.

I need the car back for uni, so I think I'm just gonna put an OEM bush in the rear until the rest come! I hate cars sometimes!

Now uni's started back I won't be working as much, so not much will happen..

where did you bought the fronf bumper moulding, as i see you haven't got space for number plate, or did you just smoothed it?

Yeah man, just smoothed it before it got sprayed.

It's not hard to do though.

Finally got it bushed and back together; really like the poly's. It's very firm, but not uncomfortable..

Next on the list I think is an anti-roll bar; not sure if it'll make a difference though..

you got the entire car resprayed for £200???

Yayaa? Well, plus 170 for paint..

I did all the prep myself. And see tbh, it's not 100% perfect, but its pretty close. He never did any of the checks (like, the bits when you open the doors and stuff), but, for 200, I'm not complaining man. :)

This is looking really good, love the bathursts in that colour! Really go well with the car, weird question though, why do you have a mk4 drivers wingmirror? haha just to nit pick :D

How much of a job was it doing the rear axle bushes?? You make it sound fairly simple chopping and changes bushes every few days haha! Mine are creaking about and willl need done soon!

I was hoping no-one noticed. :( I can't actually remember though, something happened to the drivers and it got fucked, and the spare was broken too, so that was the first thing I grabbed.

Was thinking about spraying them black, but not too sure.. I might photochop them, but if anyone else can (I'm crap with PS), I'd love that!

Bushes aren't too hard to do, the fronts take little time at all tbh, the old ones pressed out with a hammer and some persuasion.

Back left was easy to do, just cut the old one with a recip saw and smashed it out. Venom sent out the wrong ones, so had to put an OEM one back in until I got the right ones..

Attempted to do the back right but it looks harder tbh; looking at taking a brake line off. Ran out of light, so I'll look at doing it soon.

It's not hard though. :)

Little update;

So got the Weitecs on, they're lovely.

IMG_1829.jpg

All bolted up;

IMG_1833.jpg

Then dropped right to the bottom. Serious challenge running this through winter, but I'm gonna try! Alteast the snow's held off so far! :)

Audio update!

My last JL sub tucked into the arch wasn't that great, only a baby 8". Packed a punch, but didn't really cut it.

So I found a Rockford Fosgate on the bay for 170 posted. 10", 1000W rms! The guy drove it from London all the way to Glasgow! What a legend!

The sub is an a absolute belter! 15kgs! :/

IMG_1852.jpg

Wanted to do a proper boot build for it too, so started this in between rain showers:

IMG_1843.jpg

IMG_1848.jpg

IMG_1845.jpg

IMG_1851.jpg

Sorted. Trying to get a 1500w rms amp off a guy on here, hopefully he'll post it! :)

My Dad got the new Golf TDi as a company car and it's pretty sweet! I really liked the footwell lights that stay on half brightness while the engine is running and come on full when the door is opened.

Went to the scrappy and borrowed some lights from the boot of a Bora, built little brackets from Meccano and they look like this:

IMG_1853.jpg

Built a resistor pack to halve the voltage when the sidelights are on, and then tapped into the roof light for full brightness when it's on/the door's opened.

The little Canon is pretty pish at picking up the light, but it looks like this:

IMG_1856.jpg

Much better in real life though! :)

Plans are now to finish that boot build with the proper amp, then get on with the engine! It's coming together now! :)

Enjoy!

So things've been really busy recently! :/ Bought a rear beam, fogs and some other bits off a guy on here; LLLupo or something! Really sound guy.

GTi Clocks:

Fogs:

Black interior light:

Rear beam being stripped

Handbrake cables being painted, worked on:

161.jpg

Picked up an AFH engine, box and loom for 200 quid. Sorted.

Ripped the head off as the guy didn't know the milage and I was worried it wasn't great.

158.jpg

Started working on the loom:

157.jpg

Clean-ish.

156.jpg

The bores are pretty clean tbh:

So that's looking good! :)

Had a massive problem with my poor little AUC engine the other day! :( The O2 sensor shorted out after being kind of run over! The car then threw a freaky, none of the faults would clear and would only idle! Luckily, I wasn't far from home so got it back okay. Time was 1.00pm.

Phoned my dad and decided that it would be a better idea to, rather than get a new ECU, bugger it and throw the AFH in.

Time is now 2.0pm.

Got the car up the driveway and got some mates round:

Using a hammer, 2 men, it came out:

174.jpg

Note; this is once the 'box is off.

AUC crank ring (it's toothed):

And the AFH ring:

A little giggery pokery andddddd:

Clutch on:

And got the box on and called it a night there. :)

Went to VW today and got a discount! :D

Spent 200 quid on:

Headbolts

Head Gasket

Tensioner/etc.

So that's that sorted. Throttle cable is coming too. Just need carbs and a manifold made up. Hmm, what carbs do i need? Will CBR600 Fj's do?

2 men and a lot of swearing later:

187.jpg

Some loom onto it too:

188.jpg

Got the TCi module from a MK2 Golf today, so nearly sorted ignition. :)

Looks good man. Really like the lupo wheels. I was thinking about them for mine. They suit the polo well. Look foreward to seeing this progress

  • Author

Cleaned the head today and had a little tweak porting and polishing them, didn't take too much off.

Got most of the loom wired up, so that's good. Going to get a coil mounted tomorrow. Was going to use the 6n one cause it's small.

Does the amp care about resistances of coils?! And what other dizzy's can you run? Anything off a MK2 Golf perhaps?

I don't mind rebuilding them, just can't find one with a mech adv! :(

Need to get a manifold made up too. :/ Still got loads tbh.

Wow you've been busy man! LOVE the recaros, they suit the 6n2 so well! Keep up the good work!

  • Author

Thanks man! This is in between going to uni 5 days a week too! :/

Today's plan is wire up the rest of the loom, go and collect my headgasket from VW and then get the head and exhaust on.

Left the rocker in water and degreaser to try and free the old gasket, it's actually solid! :/

Also just off the phone from a lovely man called Alan. He's from Stirling and scrapping a poor little MK2! So I've had the ignition module, coil and dizzy for 15 pounds. And it's new! :D

It's going to the scrappers on Monday, so if anyone wants any bits, get in touch with him!

Need to run a throttle cable, might have to drill the bulkhead! :(
