I think I am man, not seen another one like it! Got the crank sensor hooked up today; hoping that it'll see revs now.

I want one, but I need money for insurance first, then look at fancy bits!

Dude you want linkages??

  • Author

Shit, sorry bud; aye, if they're going!

It's just postage is gonna be a bast! It's only the cables because the little plastic sheath on the end has snapped and it's so sloppy it's unreal!

But it's a hassle to remove them! And I don't think they'd be too happy being curled up either. I'll check RM and see what they say!

A steady bolt would be nice too - VW couldn't find it! :/

Postage maybe ok, will try get you a price.

Which bolt mate?

Pm me your postcode

The big one that goes into the box, but has an 8mm? shaft? that goes through the steady and secured with a nut.

Basically holds the linkages onto the box.. I had to angle grind the old one off, VW couldn't find it, then ordered me just a standard box bolt, which doesn't help! hahaa.

Will do man!

For cable linkage or the steady brace? The bell housing bolt with the extra m8 shaft you mean?

  • Author

That's the one! From memory (which was a few months ago), it was about 30/40mm long? The shaft, that is.

I know the one, I have one too. I'll send with linkages if you want them

Hiyaaa oil pressure!

After a major problem of having no oil pressure even with it being a brand new oil pump, turns out it was missing a bush - 030115112B if anyone wants it.

It bridges the gap between the pump and the block, which the new block wasn't fitted with.

VW would be waiting a week for the part, so I made one up using an old socket, as it was the perfect diameter for the whole. Wrapped it in Self Amalgamating tape and pressed it into the block. All fitted back up, sump back on with a new gasket and filled it with oil.

Fired it up and prayed for the best. Removed the oil pressure switch to see if I had oil, stupid mistake. Never seen so much oil come out a hole before..

The finished product:

The wiring loom is so thick! :/

Contains oil pressure, temp, revs and speed. Done.

Knurled screw to adjust idle. Whether it'll stay in is another question..

And a video:

And, it lives! It's a bit whiry cause I'm getting noise through the speakers. But, nonetheless, it's function. Just need to pay for insurance now..

Is this on a 6n2 GTI block? I've been wondering if its possible to do it on a 6n2 gti lump as they are fly-by-wire and therefore a bit harder to stick on carbs?

  • Author

Nah, the AFH mate.. I'm basically going backwards.

Mine was flybywire too, just took it off, made my own pedal and then ran a cable. Check the FAQ though, I THINK? you can put the AFH head onto the GTi block.

Engine management goes nuts though. Need to figure out a way to turn the lights off..

Take out the bulbs :p

Cambelt tight?

Fuck off mate! :p Yeah, its spot on this time. Certainly a learning experience, ahaha

hey mate by any chance you still got the 1.0 loom for the dash? :) Pm me if you do :D

I never took it out, it's still used!

Got it dropped onto it's wheels today, and all gears are functional.

But, the servo is dropped the revs alot when I brake, and the pedal goes to the floor when I drive. The brakes work, just require more pressure than normal.

Press the brakes and the servo builds up pressure and it's okay, although the pedal is further down than normal. The first press sees the pedal drop quite a bit, and the revs drop, alot. Ideas?

Your one way valve ok in the vacuum line to the servo?

I said about the cambelt due to the whirring btw nothing to do with blow ups

  • Author

Aw, haha. I thought it was a dig. Nah, it's tight, rollers and tensioners are all new, couldn't afford to loose it this time! It's gone now, think it's the alt bearings that are shot tbh! But it runs fine!

I THINK? it is. Gonna take it off and make sure though?.. Was yours fine with just one tapin?

Yeah it was ok, the revs would dip if you held the brake on, it's because it effectively creates an airless in that inlet tract whilst the servos recovering vacuum.

Try more than one tapin?

  • Author

Yeah, but it shouldn't stall. Mine goes from 900ish to just below 5. Keep pumping and it's seriously close to cutting out?..

I could, but it means taking the mani off again! :p How was the pedal feel though? This is defs gash. :/

yeah but you have no idle control like you would on injection!

  • Author

I ken that. Just really questioning how good yours/others servo is with carbs. Spoke to the RAC guy that comes through the work and said that the servo doesn't really need that much vacuum. Gonna experiment once I get out this hell hole at 2. :)
