Need some advise please

Featured Replies

Evening all. i was brought a private plate for my 21st birthday, so on friday i went down to the DVLA office and had it transferred onto my car. They re-printed my tax disc and MOT certificate there and then and gave me a small part of my v5 back with a DVLA stamp to say the reg had been changed and he told me i would receive my new v5 through the post in a week or so.

Basically i was stopped saturday by the boys in blue because he thought i had a bold tyre (even though all 4 were recently replaced) he asked for all my documents and when i gave him the small part of the v5 i had, him and his colleague looked at it as though it was a fake or something. He then told me i need to produce my full v5 document within a week, to which i explained it was new and just sent the docs off. His exact response was "well your fucked then aint you pal" and told me how if i dont produce it i will be getting fines and points and maybe even my car seized. Surely he cant do this as the part i have should pass as a v5 as i physically dont have one???

any help is much appreciated

matt

i had a similair incident to this, in which i got a vhicle defect notice and had to get to an mot station and send of a stamped form when the 'problems' had been rectified, although sods law the next morning the car wouldnt start due to a major mechanical problem, so i rang a number on the form and told them the situation and got a 1 month extension on the time frame :)

no no, thats not what i was saying, the point i was making was that when i rang them and explained the situation they quite happily gave me an extension on the time

ahh i get you now, cheers for the help buddy

If you cant produce your documents within a week for this very reason then they are obliged to give you a weeks extension after this. If after the weeks extension you still dont have the v5 then go down to the cop shop, explain you haven't recieved it yet. Then some fat nice person of police assistant thing behind the counter will go off and check on their computer that you have a v5, tax and mot and will just give you a warning!!

No points, no fine, no court, no nothing (thats providing that this is your first occdurence of being unable to produce your documents)

Cops just trying to scare you dude, fucking bastards they are matey!

twits hope they didnt aggravate you too much.

They sound like a right bunch of knobbers.

You've done the right thing.

anyway a PNC would have confirmed it all they were just twits peeving you off and making you worry

Police are fucking morons, they probably told you that because they simply dont know what the alternate option is.

I even had a police officer tell me my mk1 was tax exempt recently. He even called it in over the radio to their control room and they confirmed it was tax exempt

Utter fucking idiots don't know what laws they are enforcing!

Another excuse the moan about the police. Isn't that all a bit old?

Anarchy yeah!? :retard:

I assume it's exempt from excise duty? You're still obliged to display a valid excise licence though.

I presume your encyclopedic knowledge of all UK law would have realised this though...

far too old. they are here for a reason and its not like they are the Gestapo they aren't hunting you down and killing you families.

Tbh some are trying, my mates dads in the force n the shit he tells me n my mate is mad, beatings, intimidation, framing etc

Which isnt great, good that the people they do it are scum, women beaters, drug dealers etc

Its not a case of tarring all officers with the same brush, its the minority few that have Hitler/short man/small willy complexes that give the others a bad name.

When our car ran out of fuel/battery died (caravan pulling more than it should have) the other night 2 very helpful officers gave me a lift to the petrol station to get some and went to get a set of jump leads for us to use.

The other side of the coin is the one who pulled me in a few years back a right jobsworth about 4foot 9 tall and ginger  My exhaust was too loud, my car was too low, my tyres were bald (all had over 2mm of tread), my lights didnt work properly (ignition off = no lights), number plate lights were too bright etc....

Nothing came of it as the MOT garage just stamped the form and said what a idiot. Apparently he was new to the area and had been making an impression.

Yes i totally agree man, I've had a fair few police extremely willing to help, dont want to cause more trouble than necesarry and one even gave me street bail after glassing some guy in a brawl, just to walk my girlfriend home :')

Oh and I'm not a thug, the guy had my best mate on the floor suppocating him :@

But I've had a few cops that are complete utter wankers, tried doing me for having no lights, brakes and "slick" tyres on my bmx, when i was on the skatepark :| £90 fine, i made my opinions to him heard and he just gave me some agro and left without giving me the fine but like you say they get a bad name due to a minority :/

1 copper hits someone 100 coppers get the consequences. its not fair really.

Oh and theres one around my area (Chesterfield) "PC Hussain" who keeps trying to do my mate for having pressed plates even though he has a signed declaration from the police in sheffield saying they are legal as the cars plate readers can read them :|

nice person

I find that traffic police know what they are on about and 9 times out of 10 are just sound as hell.

Beat bobbies on the other hand are just the worst, they see motorists as easy and treat you like a criminal for something simple like having a tail light out.

I find the best way to deal with them though is when you are stopped, get out of the car and walk towards them.

Don't just sit in the car and make them come to the window, makes you look nervous, small and lack confidence.

If you get out of the car straight away it can show you have nothing to hide, aren't nervous and have confidence. Also with me being 6ft1 I tend to make the usual power crazed beat bobby feel small.

Means they don't start spouting off a load of BS about your car being illegal etc when it clearly isn't.
